Spanish Football 2011-2012

Dull? They've scored twice more :o

It's still pretty dull tbh, when you watch them play every week you get desensitised to seeing teams get drubbed easily and the only games that are interesting are the ones where a team nearly pulls off an inspired result but gets beaten by a moment of brilliance. Over 38 games the vast majority of them will be them winning the game in the first half hour then spending the 2nd coasting and putting on 2nd string players, with maybe the odd goal.

I agree, it is pretty dull, simpy because Barca are just so good they don't give the other teams a chance to play. Villareal only left their own half a handful of times, spent most the game penned around their own goal.

3, but some have gone to the last day of the season.

Funny that, same number of teams have won it in Spain ;)

Spain is as much a two horse race as the Premiership has been recently, the only difference is that the Premier league now have Manchester City attempting to buy a title.

But how often do you see Man Utd or Chelsea winning it by 5-0 or 6-0, maybe once or twice a season?

I do think far too many teams go into to games against Barca/Madrid expecting to lose, and their performance reflects this. You get the odd match where they have a real go and almost get a draw or the occasional shock win, but most of the time what happens is they lack belief, ball watch, and fail to convert the 1-2 chances they get as they lack quality/service up front. The rest of the league has got progressively over the last few years and it just increases the disinterest even most Spaniards have with any game that doesn't involve either of the top two. At least Malaga getting some petro-dollars might liven places 3-20 up a bit.

Also in the Prem the top teams often have to find ways to grind out wins, or get difficult games from opponents who you'd expect them to walk over. Over the last couple of years the big two in Spain have been hammering teams ever more regularly, to the point where it seems odd if the score isn't a cricket one.

Well United just spanked Arsenal (the other side who'd won the league out of the three English sides) 8-2.

Barcelona and Real are just outstanding sides, I imagine they'd be able to put 5/6 past most of the Premier League.

But the gap between the top 2 teams and the rest is massive in Spain.

2010/11 Season:

2nd - Real Madrid - 92
3rd - Valencia - 71

2nd - Chelsea - 71
3rd - Man City - 71

I doubt even barca/real would be 20 points ahead of anyone if they played in the EPL.

First time i've seen a team play with a 3-4-3 formation like was the case with FC Barcelona against Villarreal, Though they were forced into it with Alves, Pique, Puyol and Adriano being out.. I can easily see them play this formation a few times this season due to the amount of midfield players they have available.

Valdes - Mascherano Busquets Abidal - Keita Thiago Fabregas Iniesta - Pedro Messi Alexis

That was the team out last night with the likes of Xavi and Villa on the bench and basically the whole defence injured/sitting out last nights game.

Thiago and Fabregas have added another dimension to Barca's play which should be evident this year with the amount of goals these two players get, Bad news for the others looking to even remotely challange them. The options they have in midfield and attack is frightening to say the least.

Barca's new added depth means they can rest(or due to injury) Avles, Xavi, Pique and Villa and not even miss them on the pitch. Thiago looks very very promosing. Now with the added players, they won't tire out like they did last season.

Was that swap/cash deal ever really on for Fab <> Thiago? Did Arsene reject it?

Theres not a chance in hell that Barcelona would EVER willingly sell a youngster to Arsenal anymore, we've burned every single bridge their possible by stealing people over and over, we stole two more, but Thiago EVERYONE in Barca knows how good he was, never a chance in hell we were getting him.

I dunno, I read they have basically tightened up their dealings so that if they sell young players to other clubs, their contracts mean Barca will always be able to buy them back without having to go through the ropes like they did for Fabregas. A club, even a big one like Barca is never going to have all their young players make it to the first team or keep them all even if they aren't fulfilling their potential. May as well let a few go for some £ then have the option of buying them back if they actually turn out to be good once they develop into good adult players.

Barca/Real dominate by strangling the league economically. It would be pathetic if they didn't dominate, considering the percentage of TV revenue they take.

I agree, but to label and put a negative spin on La Liga for being a two horse race when the Premier League has been pretty similar for the past ~10 years is a bit hypocritical and silly.

Watched 60 minutes of the Barca game, they were so dominanant it was just pretty dull. Fabregas does look even more ridiculously good there though which is frightening.

edit: I think the problem is that the top two don't even look like losing to anyone else, I mean Villareal are one of the better teams and they got absolutely annihilated start to finish whereas any team in the PL really can beat any team on any given day, Norwich and West Brom drove Chelsea really close at the bridge the last 2 games etc etc.
