Catalunya

The Formula One teams are no strangers to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (formerly known as the Circuit de Catalunya); not only have they raced there every year since 1991, they also conduct extensive testing at the venue.

Familiarity does not, however, lessen the challenge for car or driver. Barcelona's mix of high and low-speed corners, plus its abrasive and rather bumpy track surface, makes for a physically and mechanically taxing race. Tyre wear is particularly high and the varying winds that cut across the circuit mean an optimum set-up can be hard to find.

For spectators Elf corner is among the best places to watch, as it is one of the track's few overtaking opportunities. For the drivers it is the final two turns, known collectively as New Holland, which provide one of the biggest challenges of the season. A fast exit is essential in order to maximise speed down the start-finish straight into Elf.

2013 marked the 23rd time Barcelona has hosted the Spanish Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher has been the most successful driver at the circuit, with a total of six victories. Among the other current drivers, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Mark Webber and Felipe Massa have all won there.

Cheers Shimmy :)

Would love to see Force India continue their good form into the European races.

Unfortunately might not be able to catch the race live as will be travelling back from Iceland that day (have a early flight though so you never know :p) oh well may have to avoid all news until I can watch it :D

I will be able to confirm my view on the sound of the new engines as me and the GF will be at the track for this one :D.

Grandstand L for Sat and Sun, and roaving seats for Friday. Can't wait!

I think the Red Bull will go well here, it's arguably the best or second-best aero car which is what Barcelona is all about, but not going to be enough to beat the Merc I reckon, so yeah, another Hamilton win hopefully \o/

Take lots of photos! Seems the weather is going to be pretty decent for you too :)

Hoping McLaren deliver on the 'interesting upgrade' they have for this race.

Woohoo! We're (likewise, me and the g/f-soon-to-be-wife) flying out tomorrow. Are you going to the pit walk on Thursday too? You'll be able to judge first-hand if my assessment of the engines back from testing in Jerez was accurate.

We're going to do the pit walk in the afternoon, as the McLaren drivers should be around from 4.20 pm onwards. We're going to skip Friday practice and make a judgement on qualifying depending on what else we find to do in Barcelona over the weekend. But Sunday, we're manning up and getting from the very beginning for all the races.

Whereabouts are you staying? We're in Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya.

We're also the keepers of Papa Smurf - https://twitter.com/F1_PapaSmurf - for this weekend. Picking him up at the track on Thursday :)

Edit - we're in Stand F - end of the pit straight.

Apparently Renault will be bringing a software update to get more power out of the engines, combine that with RBs aero, I can see them having a good weekend here.

Unless of course, Merc. have got even faster :p

I've not managed to convince the GF to let me go to the track on Thursday unfortunately. But then I did tell her it was a week in Barcelona before I then slyly dropped in the bit about there being a race on :p. Were in stand L so opposite you, and staying in Rafaelhotel in Badelona.

Off to Gatwick shortly.

Brilliant!!!

Not expecting it to be an exciting race but hoping McLaren have some upgrades that work as expected (especially if everyone else's dont :p)

We're flying from Gatwick too. I guess we'll see you on EasyJet at 3.45 pm!
