Spanish Grand Prix 2014, Catalunya - Race 5/19

the wall was easily avoidable
That's what I thought. Sure it's a qualifying lap but why not admit defeat and let the car run wide onto the concrete on the other side of the astro and give yourself a bit more space to sort things out? The lap's lost but at least you've got a chance to have another go instead of taking an early bath.

Every race i wonder where Maldonado would be without all the sponsor money behind him

Nowhere of course, it's the only reason he has a drive.

Surely no coincidence that Williams are making massive noise about cost caps at the moment, having lost all his sponsorship cash.

You're forgetting one crucial detail - Maldonado is totally useless.

So even the merc isn't perfect and hammy for pole I think

Hopefully. I think Rosberg is starting to show signs of self-doubt that perhaps Lewis is simply better than he is - one or two more poles/wins from Lewis and I think it could seriously damage Rosberg's self-belief.

I would be very surprised if Hamilton wasn't on pole.

Hamilton is the better driver and looks better here, but seems like the car is a bit off since the overnight rebuild. Didn't look particularly happy in Fp3 nor start of quali. The car isn't where it was yesterday by the looks of it. I would still expect Hamilton to win but I wouldn't be surprised. if the car looked great in FP3 then I would be shocked if he didn't get pole but the car doesn't look near where the team had it working yesterday.

We will see. He seems to be upset with something, I still think by the end of the session he will pull it out the bag. :)

I'm sure I remember hearing a figure of around 15m, although whether that's correct or even what currency I don't know.

Thanks. 15 million would be a fair chunk to bring to the table right enough. Not convinced is value for money for the team though, gets a lot of negative press for crashing etc

I think he'll have more time available to him for sure and I think he's several tenths faster in general(track dependant) than Rosberg, but if the car isn't quite there and he has a few tenth's less then it pushes him back in to rosberg. If anyone watched FP3, the car certainly didn't come out of the rebuild in perfect nick, steering was slightly off and a couple other things didn't look right.

Must be crazy frustrating to have basically perfect car one day then the team has to rebuild it, theoretically should be easy to put in an identical state but it never quite works out that way.
