Spanish Grand Prix 2015, Catalunya - Race 5/19

So what happens now? Does hamilton stay out and block everyone behind him? Mercedes saying they will stop again, but if the tyres hold out why would they? Hamilton might over rule them.

The tyres will be cheese if they do that.

They need to let Hamilton floor it. But I'm still not convinced they won't bottle it and try and last.

They could, but ultimately come the last 5 laps he's most likely end up 3-4 seconds a lap slower, Rosberg would get him and Vettel would probably get him, maybe even others.

I assume Rosberg is staying in clear air to make sure he has life left in the tyres in case he needs to push.

Yep. He needs to either be ahead of Hamilton or a nice clear 3s behind him.

I'm not sure Lewis will be able to make up 20 seconds on the mediums, but God I hope Mercedes let him try.

Either way, in bad weekends it's about maximising points ham as done that and there's still a very slim chance. May well be right behind by the end, but it's getting past,

Suspect it might be closer at the end than people think

*ham to ros that is

Closer than it is, for sure, but how close, difficult to say. AS the other week, Kimi had a big gap and closed it more than anyone thought, but by the time he caught up he didn't have the same advantage and didn't make it.

Also the difference is that Rosberg will only be on 19 lap old hards by the end. If his tires were 5-10 laps older then there would be more of a chance.

Had Hamilton not been stuck behind Vettel for half the race also, there would have been a chance. Question really is, will he push or save the engine. If he killed the engine catching him and took a new engine for Monaco while Rosberg saved an engine and had one more upgraded engine for the rest of the season, pushing hard here could cost Hamilton a disadvantage for 4-5 races in the rest of the season.

The hards are 1 second-ish slower even when new.
