OVERVIEW
Space Pirates and Zombies takes place far enough in the future that Earth has become a toxic backwater planet, so potentially not that far in the future. The galaxy has been colonized by humans, and the only means to travel to new star systems is through highly restricted and well defended warp gates. It is well known that systems closer to the galactic core become richer and richer as well as more scientifically advanced. This has led to theories of a secret system with a cache of treasure or knowledge at the galactic core feeding this growth. As a pirate, you must assemble a fleet and discover what treasure awaits you there.

Picked this up just yesterday, was going to make a similar post about it today but i found myself just addicted to it. Im quite near the start but so pretty much havnt put it down since.

People should try it out, the demo was enough to get me hooked and buy it!

Sounds a bit like homeworld. If it could be modded so hulls and tech could look like homeworld i think this could be a new fav game of mine.

Voice actor is a bit dire tho which isnt his fault really as it just didnt suit a game imo. Just sounds like a bloke and not like a military guy (think homeworlds voice overs instead).

Grabbed the demo from the official place as its not on steam for a strange reason i mean i know its not released on steam till august but the demo i would have thought would have been online.

Looks good fun,

I've been looking to get into a space game after falling off the cliff-like learning curve of X3, (but I havent tried any mods on X3)

Playing the demo so far its nice, intro was awful tho cos of the voice. Gfx arnt too bad, but the ships are very small and a little hard to control and spacial awareness is a bit tricky tho it might be just me not played a top down game for so long.

The gameplay is good tho, i went with biggest universe cos of the better options of difficulty i.e not jumping from 5 to 10.

Cant recall if its mp but be nice if i can play with a friend and together conquer the universe in co-op mode or somit.

The chat can be funny tho :)

*finally gets round to watching the video*

Looks interesting. Definitely based off Gratuitous Space Battles though, 1 of the ships in the background, the silouhette looked almost identical to 1 of the 'Empire' ships. Pretty sure some of them look similar to others too. Would definitely have to go with a demo first though, see if the combat does at least have enough to keep me interested.

There's a demo on the main site :)

The voice-over is pretty terrible, but the video on the media section of the site by the same guy kind of made me not judge the game too much (he pretty much hates his own voice acting). There are tons of bits of inspiration/stealing from other games but it all adds up to quite a novel game.

He sounds exactly the same as when he does the WTF videos - annoying.

Anyway, the game is quite simple but addictive, not sure how much longevity it has though.

Looks a nice game. I think I might pick this up when it comes to steam.

Hate the voice over guy. Surely they could have done better than this, really pulls the game down.

I'm hoping they'll change that at some point. It's quite amateurish, yeah.

In regards to steam, keys that you buy now can later be activated on steam. This is what swayed me into purchasing now rather than waiting :)

Is this info anywhere on the site?
If thats the case I'll just buy it direct.

Just want to minimise the number of steam type apps on my system.

Does this use the gratuitous space battles engine, visually it looks extremely similar, but then it is 2d and set in space.
