Speaker placement

TV in-front of a window yuck, I really don't get this modern obsession with setting up living rooms to be entirely focused around TV's do people really sped that long staring at the screen that it should be the overriding concern?

Interesting that's a massive room to dedicate to a home cinema! If thats the case get the speakers on stands in the correct positions and board over the window to properly seal it in, what else do you have planned for the room ie decor sound treatment etc? TV above the fireplace is rubbish your right although you can get some great out and down mounts these days so you can pull the TV into the correct position when your having a TV session and then tuck it back up out of the way afterwords both are chav options for my money.
