Spec a CAD build £800

As for graphics card, if not gaming I would recommend a proper 'workstation' card as the architecture is optimised for best performance in 2D/3D CAD programs, and they have specific performance drivers for these programs too.

I have been using these cards in recent workstation builds and they are excellent for the money - the client is very happy with performance in AutoCAD etc:

AMD FirePro V4900 Professional Graphics Card - 1GB - GDDR5 SDRAM
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-011-AM

No in stock at OCUK but they always order them in for me.

I've gone for the Antec kuhler H20 950 as ive not had a water cooled system before and good for a bit of pub talk, also saves me some cash. Thanks for all the suggestions :)

Just watching some how to build a PC videos and playing the waiting game.

Thanks, I'm not ready to buy a graphics card and 4k screen yet as funds are running low for this computer until the beginning of September. When i'm ready to order a graphics card i'll keep this in mind.

But just for reference, next on list will be a Blu ray drive, 4k screen, graphics card and an audio card.

Sooo, My delivery came at around 11am this morning so ive been a little busy. this post is from my new PC :) its super quick compared to my XPS laptop.

All in all it has taken me around 5 hours start to finish, not bad for a first build if I do say so myself :D
My back is in bits as I put some cardboard down on the floor; didn't have a big enough table to hand to keep everything in a meticulous manor

I'm not entirely sure what to do next... Do I update everything before I start using casually? is the further testing required?

Cheers
T

Thanks

Brilliant, Glad you enjoyed it, it certainly seems that way. :)

5 hours is pretty good, i remember it took me a good 4 hours to swap my case (though that was dismantling and building a PC) at one point. :)

Ill be honest you don't HAVE to do anything, though i'd suggest these things.

  • Check your SSD Speed Make sure its running at SATAIII (non-IDE)
  • Make sure something like windows defender is running, that is fine for anti-virus (malware-btyes is also good)
  • Download CPU-Z and HWmonitor to check on CPU speeds and Temps. CPU temps around 30C-40C is fine (lower the better). :)
  • Ensure you have the latest Graphics driver (as its onboard you may have to look this up through the intel website)
  • Check your RAM speed (this can be done is CPU-Z too). As its dual chanel its will appear as half (1600mhz = 800mhz)..
  • POST PICTURES!

All good? :)

Edit: I forgot to mention that my DVD re writer just came on its own in some bubble wrap. As I've got the SSD and the HDD, I'm missing a data cable for the DVD or HDD as I've only got 2 data cables with the Motherboard. (I've got the SSD as main) Do I have to buy another data cable? was it missing? or do I just need to plug in the sata cable with the power supply and data goes via that?

Will do mate

I think the day is about to get longer :(

Downloaded hw monitor and i think im cooking something.

Tmpin1 shows 128deg.c across the board.
Tmpin2 shows 23 deg.c across the board.

I would'nt worry about the TMP temps, it's the temps on the Cores a little further down, which are important. Your's look fine, no problem.

Been a long day. :D

Congratulations on your first build. :)

Thank **** for that.
I can finally rip into the complimentary haribo :)

Well Done,

Glad its all sorted.

Haribo is a good reward. :)

EDIT: You will need another SATA data cable for your Optical drive. I thought you'd get more than 2, I was wrong.

Computer keeps crashing :(

It was ok when I first had it, now over the past two weeks its always crashing when on google maps using the zoom function,
Recently CAD also while zooming in and using Pan, and now in windows picture editor while setting highlights.

Any ideas guys?

You need another data cable, the SSD/HDD and DVD drive all need a SATA cable to the motherboard and of course a power cable from the power supply.
