I am currently pondering the following setup

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) £69.99 (£82.24)
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS SuperClocked 320MB GDDR3 £179.99(£211.49)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £149.99 (£176.24)
Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 Motherboard £124.99 (£146.86)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 £74.99 (£88.11)

I would like to hit 3GHz with air cooling, so my questions are, what cooler to suggest and if the ram is good enough to hit that 3GHz. I would prefer a good cooler that is great out of the box and doesn't require lapping, since I have no idea where to start with that, then to have the best cooler around.

My other question is regarding the graphics card, EVGA and BFG have almost same spec and same cost, is there any reason to actually pick one over the other? I know both are great brands, but I would like to know that there is a good customer service behind the company I choose, so which one should it be?

Thank you all for reading this and most of all thanks for taking your time to reply. Thanks in advance

Noctua NH-U12F or Tuniq Tower would be my suggestion for the cooler, remember to include some AS5 or similar as I think both are supplied without paste.

The CPU has a 9x multiplier so you need Ram capable of 333mhz (PC5300 or better) to reach around 3ghz. That Ram will be fine or you could get PC5300/5400 and more of it if you wished as Barry1337 suggests (nb that without a 64bit OS you will only see around 3.5gb out of the 4gb).

The main difference between BFG and EVGA is that one has a lifetime warranty and one ten years respectively, either is more than sufficient so pick whichever is cheaper would be my advice or whichever has the better bundle. :)

Thanks for the great replies, I was wondering about going for 4Gb ram, but since I will be opting for Win XP for the next 6 months at least I think it would be a bit of a waste, and if need be I can always buy ram at a later date, most likely at a cheaper price.

If I were to give in and go for 4Gb on Win XP, even though it would read 3.5Gb would you reckon it worth it? in both an application scenario like sql server/adobe photoshop/visual studio 2005 and even games?

The Noctua NH-U12F seems a great cooler, I would mount it with another fan in a push pull setting, which should give a slightly better cooling.

Once again thank you for the great replies and looking forward to get more feedback regarding the spec.

I wouldnt spend that on a board i would change it for the P35C-DS3R and get a 640mb 8800gts.

Then i would swap the memory for the OcUK 2 x (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit.

to lap all you need is a flat surface and some fine "wet n dry" paper which you could get from places like focus / b and q. All yo do is rub the base of the cooler on the abrasive paper in a figure of 8 making sure you keep it @ 90 degrees to the paper. It really is that simply :)
