Hi,

Im going to be ordering everything for my new build Sunday/Monday and looking for some advice / critisism on what ive chosen so far.

Mainly going to be used for watching media and some light gaming (cs 1.6 / Source, COD4, and a few MMORPG's)

My budget being £1500

Planning to use Sharkoon' Silent Eagle 2000's throughout the case, and some AS5 for the Cpu / HS.

Thanks in advance
Vehemence.

That would indeed all work. However, I think you can save some money and get the same or better performance. I'll knock up a spec for you if you like. :)

Will you be overclocking?

yes i am hoping to do some overclocking hopefully to around the 3.4/3.6 ghz mark.

welcome to the forums =]

here's what I would do:

change vista ultimate for home premium 64bit, there's little difference

raptors are not very good value for money at all, get two decent 7200 rpm drives instead

you may as well chuck in another 2gb of RAM (get 2x2 sticks imo) as you've got 64 bit

that's worth the extra few quid over the ati imo.

That any better?,

looks good, the RAM is a bit overkill, you ould probably cut costs a bit there and get the same performance from some:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-136-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813
which is on offer, which is always nice

and that's quite a lot to spend on a case as well, could save a few pounds there as well.

that GTX is definately good value, for what it is (bloody good), but it's only good value if you need all of the performance it has to offer ;)

but it's definately looking good =]

This mobo will overclock a bit better. This is better, I think:. Two of these Seagate disks in RAID 0 will blow away a single Raptor in speed. You'll have more storage space to boot. The 7200.11 500 GB disks are having some firmware problems so I suggest that you wither wait until they're sorted or get these fast WD disks. Similarly, Thermalrights like the one you have above are known to have their own manufacturing problems that require many of them to be lapped to ensure flatness. This Tuniq is 95% as good and will not have that problem. 2x2 GiB RAM leaves the future open for upgrades and this OcUK kit is very good for the money. This graphics card is much faster. I'm not fond of the case you had. It's huge, ugly, and noisy. This one is a more sensible choice. The PSU you had is overkill. This'll do the job just as well. :)

Also, it's 170+ quid cheaper. :D

EDIT: Throughout I was referring to your original spec

Since the antec P182 is out of stock atm, i decided to opt for the Lian-li PC-V2000 case instead, and since im still far under budget im think of getting a 24" monitor to replace my 2x 19" monitors so i added the 8800 GTX, to get the most of out the higher resolution's for when im watching HD media and gaming.

It may be worth considering changing the OCUK GTX (575MHz Core, 768MB 1800MHz GDDR3 Memory, 128 Stream Processors, SLi Ready, 1yr Warranty.)
