Spec Check Please?

It's a subject of much debate tbh with ivy chips being a lot more power efficient Sli power requirements are a bit of a grey area. To be on the safe side go with 750w+ if ur thinking of Sli/xfire 750w should be more than enough for Sli/xfire on ivy

That was my exact thinking, have bumped the PSU to 750W+ :p

Should be ready to buy tomorrow :D

I like the Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure CPU Cooler that you have suggested. This CPU Cooler is a mid range one in comparison to its high end counter part Alpenföhn K2. Would you suggest opting for the cheaper one given that I won't be attempting an extreme overclock?

Also, read that the Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure does not have a fan for a push/push configuration, is this type of setup necessary for good airflow in a case, or do I not require this?

I was looking into something similar Dodger:
For GFX: I think the GTX 660 ti (NOT the SC) is the best option (gaming and all-round performance)

There is also the MSI GTX 660 Ti Power Edition - which can be OC'ed, like no other card in its range.

The twin MSI you linked - is very powerful, and a good choice (from what I read)

I have done a lot of research regarding AMD vs Nvidia graphics card, and in my opinion, getting a 7950 and overclocking it is one of the best bang for bucks card when comparing a 7950 vs 670. Plus, the Nvidia counterparts are at least £50 more expensive and I personally do not believe its worth that much for a ~5% increase in games.

The Gigabite Graphics Card was highly recommended from reviews. I think maybe I should sacrifice a little bit on the graphics card and perhaps opt for the Twin MSI as this has the free games with it - what do people think?

For PSU:
I was looking into the Corsair AX650/750/850.
But the Seasonic X-Series 760w seems another wise choice (shame it is out of stock atm)

I will be opting for the Corsair PSU, no reason except its been recommended a few times to me, the Professional HX+ series.

There are other PSU's of course. Is someone able to tell me a few reasons why I should go with another PSU?

So lets see the current list of parts now:)

I will post the full build in the next hour! :D

I have been out of the field regarding components for so long (6+ years), its been really fun and interesting to start learning about what components are available in today's world

^There would be only price in it really, from what I read.

Both the seasonic and corsair seem to be as advertised and do perform well.

As for AMD -> Drivers are the main problems with most people - and Nvidia seem to be more on-par with that.
7950 is a great choice, and something I was considering too - in fact I was looking at the 7950 OC - I seem to be leaning towards the Nvidia's though.

I do agree with you about the drivers. It's £50 more though, the drivers can't be 'that' bad can they? :o

I'll post up my build, see how it looks/costs etc and then decide if I should change graphics card but i'm pretty sure I will stick with 7950 just because I believe its the best bang for buck :D.

Some of the ones I linked to are cheaper, still have good efficency, well reviewed (made by people like Enhance Electronics, CWT or even Seasonic)

The Strider Plus 850w I linked to,

But the Seasonic I linked to is the daddy, Seasonic are used by many such as Corsair/Antec/NZXT etc to actually make their PSU's for them.

You do like causing me headaches

I'm now contemplating it myself - so damn you :P
Both are in a high-end league.
I think the 7950 out the box is better, but OC'ed the 660ti's can out-perform it. I'm not much of an OC'er, so 7950 might even suit me best - I still have to research more :D

FYI:
I'm sure you know a lot more than I do!

I'm just translating what I've been spending several days doing in research.

I'm one that doesn't buy before researching

7950 the way to go in my opinion, but it's just that, an opinion :D

Gigabite Card or stick with the MSI Twin card - which includes the games? Bare in mind, i'm not really fussed with the games just wanted to know which one to go for :D

hahahaha :D

As for cards:
For research - bloody hell this is really hard to pin down.

660 GTX ti vs 660 GTX ti SC+ vs 660 GTX ti PE vs 7950 vs 7950 OC

Basically, this is what I understand from all the searching I've done:
It's all about your personal preference.

There are certain games that the 660 gtx ti does better in, and others the 7950.

The thing is this, at stock:
7950 has lower clocks, higher mem and bus
660 has higher clocks, lower mem and bus

660 is favoured atm for people who game, as it supports games much better. ie. BF3 is designed for nvidia.

Now for overall, long-run, it seems the 7950 is better because of it's high bus and mem size - this will allow it to stretch to high limits in the long run.
However it should be noted that both are OC'able - now I don't want to OC, but if you want to OC the GPU's the 7950, can out-perform it's bigger brother the 7970 (stock) - so for me, I'm leaning for the MSI AMD Radeon HD 7950 TWIN FROZR:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-148-MS

(I'll post this in the GFX section for help)

As I plan to OC the Graphics Card, that's why I went with the 7950 ;). Thats a good card but i'm really inclined to go for the Gigabite Windforce version (currently not stocked at OC).

What do you think?
