Spec Check Please?

most importantly, is it fast!? :)

It is very fast!

I need to optimise my SSD as I feel it is operating with the handbrake on however, that could all be down to Windows 8 rather than the SSD.

I need to do some tests on Prime etc and make sure system is running optimal.

Once i'm happy with that, i'll order some new fans this week and get ready to overclock :D

which is it the Samsung?
should be good
you did ahci and intel port?
and yeh u just got to download some tools :)
I only have hdtune installed on mine but theres lots of them

just to let u know I got the same error as u on windows 8 ><
with both the regular and beta version
kinda lame

I have a Samsung 830.

I enabled AHCI.

How do I enable the Intel Port?

I know, very lame!

I am currently having trouble with my graphics card too, the display seems a little blurry.

Don't think there is a Windows 8 version for a Gigabyte 7950?

Need to do some research tonight to find different drivers.

lol i think windows7 might be an idea
i was just trying out windows8 this morning on a ati machine and it didnt go well
i got chirpy sound and blocky video
nothing i seemed to do would fix it either
so i failed and had to put windows7 back :(

if u having any problems i wouldnt count out windows8 as the cause right now
maybe some older drivers might of helped but i tried a couple and nothing i did would fix the sound either
weird weird ><

Managed to get Battlefield 3 running last night on Windows 8 and it was amaZing!

I then remembered about Dolby Headphone setting in Asus's soundcard options and well, it does exactly what it says on the tin, it helps you locate enemies via positional sound so i'm very happy :D.

I'm going to give Windows 8 a chance, i've got everything running now, just SSD left to optimise so I think I will stick with Windows 8 :)

can i ask did u use the same drivers i pointed at?
some1 just advised me to use windows7 drivers on it but i thought they were the same driver!?
i duno but i had nightmares lol

i think if u can get it doing everything u want keep it yep :)

I used those drivers that you suggested yeah mate :)

I tried to install them at the weekend and I thought I was successful but my screen was blurry and I re-checked device manager and noticed that the drivers did not install properly first time round, so installed the graphics card drivers you suggested yesterday and all was good :D

BLOODY HELL! that cooler is a BEAST haha
Here's my suggestion:
Move your HDDs and SSD to the lower rack, and remove that top rack -> you'll have better air flow through the case from the front.

And yeah man - I'll try it now :D!

Did you try the fans? Pictures? How did it go? :p

I have decided to get 1 more intake fan and put one fan in the rear exhaust.

I am thinking about taking out the fractal fan from the front and use that as the top rear exhaust.

Then put either the following fans at the front of the case as intake.

2 x Thermalright TY-150

or

2 x Corsair AF140

Which one out of these two should I go for?

The Fractal Design R4 case has a fan controller so would someone be able to advise where best to plug everything in e.g. which fans into the motherboard, which fans connected to the fan controller etc?

Advice required please :)

I can't advise on air flow. But again, fractal fan on the top will make a very loud noise.

As for which and where:
The controller allows a continues voltage to it.
In other words, the fan mobos operate based on your motherboard temps, and the ones that aren't connected to the mobo, are ones you control yourself.

For me, I'll have the front two only, on the controller. The rest, ie. The top and bottom, will be in the motherboard.

Yeah I do not want my PC to be loud.

Which means maybe I should just buy 2 x Fans as intake and leave it as that.

I'd rather have the Thermaltake/Corsair fans instead of the Fractal ones which means i would have one spare fan to put somewhere.

When I put 12V through my fans, they are a little louder, now I have my CPU cooler plugged into the controller at the front, and I can't work out if its the CPU Cooler fans that are loud or the Fractal fans.

The only way I know will be to disconnect the front Fractal fan, then put 12V through the CPU Cooler and see if it sounds the same as before - if it does, then it is likely the Noctua fans are the loudest at 12V.

If this proves not to be the case, then it will point the loudness issue to the front top Fractal fan.

The PC is very quiet so anyone reading this do not be mistaken, I just want it to be more quiet thats all :D

Wait wait...cpu cooler in controller!?
That in my opinion is highly dangerous to do..

And well, to do with your setup - don't know what to suggest really. But definitely try the fractal up top. It will be louder than any fan you'll hear on your system.
As much as i like the fractal case look, i feel there are very basic and silly mistakes that have been done in the design process of it.
Ie. Fans being much louder when on metal grills.
Motherboard, sata connections - mean the hole isn't well placed at all for more than 5 sata connections.
Clearance off the ground is next to nothing, especially seeing as the psu, is just probably downward facing
The lack of case fan screws that aren't included
The lack of any padding to protect the case door making noise when closed....the list goes on.
I'm surprised i didn't read any of these things when I read and watch reviews.
So many things on my rig i feel need explaining....

I think I have the CPU Cooler plugged into the controller, not 100% tbh so will double check tonight.

I myself hope the CPU Cooler is plugged into the Motherboard as youve highlighted :)

With regards to the case, i'm totally with you on the small things that make a difference.

However, I will not complain because I wanted a cheapish case which was stylish and silent, then overclocking etc comes after as that was not the priority for me.

I'm sure every case has pro's and con's :)

hehe if they made them perfect modders would get bored :)
i agree with height off the ground, maybe they should start selling extra tall feet
