Hey guys, it's time for my bi-yearly upgrade so I need something to last me for roughly 18-24 months. (As that's usually how often I like to upgrade.)

I'm upgrading from:

C2D E2200 @ 2.2ghz (stock)
8800GTX
4GB GeiL DDR2
Raid 0 250gb Seagates

to this:

What do you guys think? I've spent some time researching, but I figured I'd pass it around just in case I've botched or could find better deals, etc.

Any help is appreciated! :)

You won't really be able to notice any performance difference going for this bundle. Also are you actually going for an eyefinity setup or did you just fancy those graphics cards? Even at 1920 x 1200 res a single 5870 (or GTX 470/480) is more than enough.

I fancied those graphics cards, I want two for the performance and the future-proofing-ness. And at that price, they're a bargain. Why get 1gb cards when I can get 2gb cards, eh? :3

I figured I'd get the slightly "better" bundle, I'm trying to future-proof the build as much as possible. I figured the extra few hertz, better CPU/mobo would be worth it?

Spec looks ok, you can drop the PSU to 750w >.

Could go for the lower spec bundles and save a few pounds.

I though putting 2 460s in a case was asking for you house to burn down, but anyway.....

Is the UD7 on purpose? Is there any particular feature of that motherboard you are looking to take advantage of?

Whopping amount of money either way, should be a very nice build. Personally I'd stick with an ATi offering over nVidia at the moment, my fanbiosiness switches with each generation no doubt.

Well if you take a look at the review i posted you would see 2 460 in sli is actual very cool compared to the other NV offerings and is by far the best card out right know imo.

Good luck whatever you pick dude, and also do you have a case/screen for the build.

Yeah, I have an Akasa Eclipse 62 case (which should be big enough) and a 24" Dell 2407WFP. 1920x1200.

Not in particular. It was the cheapest board in that bundle. :)

As it is, I've dropped down to the bundle suggested although I am still leaning towards the 2x2gb 5870s for the extra performance over the 460...which would give me a little extra life in the computer over time.

I should have specified but my budget is about £2000.

I imagine it should be a significant performance boost over my current rig, aye?

tbh 200£ isnt worth 10% improvement and the 2GB version has no advantage at your screen size what so ever compared to 1GB version

There's no such thing as future proofing.
I can bet that you gonna spend 600quid on those GPUs and in 4-5months, 6xxx series will come out and there will be something better for half the price.

The only thing that I'll be buying to stay for longer will be either monitor, psu, case or a dvd/bluray player/rewriter. Maybe a soundcard and speakers.

Anything like CPU/ram/motherboard and especially GPU is subject to change every few months now so unless you need EXACTLY ALL THAT POWER RIGHT NOW, I'd rather buy something cheaper and upgrade to new stuff when you need it.

But yeh, if you want to splash money randomly why not go for:

Add

to that and you're set for quite some time.

Like the Phoenix guy said the 6xxx series isn't coming out in a few months. Spending 600 pounds on a card right now is kinda silly.

That's just my opinion thou, for all I know, 600 pounds for you is pocket change :D
