Hi all

It was my intention to ask for any thoughts or comments on the below

NEC AD7170S Serial ATA 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit

But getting my forum account activated took just over a day longer than I thought it would (I did have one years ago but couldn't remember the details) so I pressed the buy button and I've had the lovely email saying its being shipped :)

Anyway I suppose my main concern is the RAM, I know this stuff is supposed to be good so do you guys think I'll be fine?

Or any other comments? even though a little late for me to do much about it.

most of that looks good i would go down the nvida route tho then the 2900 and iv never really liked the antec 900 think its a bit tacky but with the case that just my own taste

The case was something I was also debating, I'm not too fussed what it looks like though as long as it does its job so ended up on that one.

In that case (no pun intended) go for it; functionally it is fine. No point paying more than that for aesthetics you aren't fussed about.

Also forgot to mention

I got 2 of the HDDs, will RAID make much difference? And dhat sort of partition sizes do people use?

I got 2 of the RAM kits, was deciding for quite a while as to go this way or 2 x 2GB sticks.

Depends what you are trying to achieve with it. Speed? Reliability?

The size of the hard drive ... Does anyone still partition their HDs into little bits?

Not sure if you'd really notice any difference either way with the RAM setup, but I'm sure someone will come up with some arguments for you.

dont bother with 2*2gb sticks as good kits are quite pricy and not very available, in 6months they will be a lot better tho.

i wouldnt get a 2900xt, i'd get a 8800 640mb or gtx, apart from that very nice!
