Hi guys, I have a Asus IV formula X79 mobo and a 3930K coming. I am determined to go water cooling and have read Shaypers excelent thread. I intend to have MSI Lightning 680's in SLI and when the EK full cover blocks are available, I will be going with 2 of those. My concerns are will the 2 rads I have in the OcUK kit and the Hardware Labs one be enough? or maybe somebody could spec me a cheaper but just as efficient water cooling soloution pleasee? Also, what would be the best barbs to use and where do I get the hose clips from? Sorry if they seem silly questions.

(Ignore the other bits, I just didn't want to lose them from the basket)

Cheers guys. I wanted to go with seperate parts but I see something I like and it is out of stock. No rush so may still do it. Good to hear a 320 and 240 are ample and I did loads of research on cases for WC an this case came out with great reviews. I was going to go with the cosmos but it didn't hold a 360 rad at the top very easily (it will but the h20-320 I was originally looking at and may still get wouldn't fit). I decided another Lightning was in my budget Scotty, so went for it :) I may sell the EVGA or I may pop it into the wifes computer (which is basicaly this computer).

I read about the Mayhems clotting up and others have said this isn't something to worry about but I may just go with blue piping and stick with distilled water as I don't want to have to drain it off and then refill every few months. Also I will take your advice and go for faster fans. I am after quiet but with a fan controller, it should be easy to get a happy medium :)

Thanks for the input men and nice build Scotty :)

Hopefully Saturday but could be Monday. I wont be using them untill I have all the bits needed and do the build then. Funds are holding me back for ordering the other parts but won't be long :)

Andy, that rad is huge lol. I would rather have something internal also but cheers for the info. I have watched a few Youtube builds and they seem to favour the compression fittings also.

It is the fittings I struggle with...All these 7/18 1/4 7/8 confuses the hell outta me. Also, I will build it and will add the LTG full cover water blocks when they are released.

Cheers PGI :) and you knew I would be coming this way ;) The noise in SLI is why I decided to go this route and looking forward to a quieter experience.

The rads should come with bolts to fit standard 25mm thick fans :)

I'd be careful with the fan controller and having 3 fans on a single channel, the controller is rated to 1A (12w) per channel, an SST-AP121 runs in at 0.33A per fan, while the GT1450's run in at 0.49A per fan.

This is why I suggested a Lamptron controller (FC5 V2 looks almost identical to the scythe controller) as they come with higher watt/amp ratings per channel, the FC5 V2 offers 2.5A/30W while some of the other Lamptron controllers offer well over 40w.

Cheers and will swap it over for the FC5 V2 :)

You don't need the Kill Coil if using Mayhem's Pastel, it has all you need built in.

Also the kit comes with 6 compression fittings so you just need 2 more (here)

I would get an extra bottle of the pastel though, one probably won't fill all that.

Not sure about the fans you have listed, Gentle Typhoons or Akasa Apache's would be my choice.

Apart from that it will be a very good set up

Ok cheers. I will buy another bottle and do you put this in neat or mix it? I was after blue LED fans for aesthetics and those seemed the best? Hopefully with fingers crossed, I will be ordering towards the end of next week, so still have plenty of time to research. The hardest bit for me is what to order. I have little fear of the building as I have seen a few builds on youtube. Obviously the powering on of the parts will be a bum twitcher :p

Oh and thanks for the input guys. I have never been near a water cooled rig or contemplated one till now, so I am deffo a noob :(

Pastel is ready to go straight in.

You should get a few litres of cheap di water from some car shop too to flush first.

I've ordered aquacomputer blocks for my lightnings!

I didn't know Aqua did them. I will have a look cheers

Put it in neat, its premixed so it already comes with all the good stuff mixed in, so zero hassle.

I can tell you from personal experience that the LED's on the SST-AP121's aren't the brightest unfortunately, they have next to no light bleed so it all stays in the fan. GT1450's and blue LED's? The raystorm comes with 2 x 3mm blue LED's that slot directly into the CPU block giving it a nice blue glow so maybe an LED strip and but a blue LED fan in the rear 120?

I'm on steam/origin (pgi947) most evenings and weekends if you need a quick reply gregster.

Cheers PGI. I will swap the fans out also for the GT1450's. The Bitfenix LED strips look cool so I will get a couple of those.

If I get stuck bro, I will call on ya if ok thanks :)

Cheers PGI. I was hoping to see that Lamptron V2 controller in stock befor I order but if not, I will get one from else where. I wanted to do the whole build incl 2*LTG waterblocks at once but not sure on the blocks release date availabilty but if need be, they can wait. I will order that ram you showed me later today.

Cool :)

You ditching the EVGA 680 for a second lightning then?

I don't know why but the Lamptron controllers show as out of stock quite often, perhaps get the white switch 810 and grab one of the silver FC5's thats showing in stock?

Not sure if to sell it to pay for the waterblocks or put it in the wifes computer but I probably will sell it. It is a great clocker TBH but I want the aesthetics to look the nuts and with 2 different cards, it wont :(

No way on a white case, They look good but everything I have is in Happy black lol. I never thought I would be worried about how the internals and case appear to the eye, so long as they performed above expected but I am going down the "I want it to look the part as well as performing better than expected" route now.

Mid life crysis my Mrs tells me :D

I use "but I need it" far too much. Thankfully she knows nothing about PC's and me telling her she will get my computer has made it easier...She thinks it will help with facebook :D

I find a good meal out and a couple of glasses of wine now and then help my cause :p

I have ordered the Lamptron V2 controller from somewhere else as sadly OcUK don't have them in stock (in black). I have also ordered 2 of these Aquacomputer aquagraFX for GTX 680 Lightning G1/4. Could somebody point me to the correct SLI bridge that will be needed please? and also any other connectors that will have to be used (loads of research but no idea on what to order in connector terms).

Thanks in advance.

It wouldn't hurt to grab a few 45 and 90 degree fittings, the ek rotarys are pretty good and cheap :)

Should make tube routing easier with a tidy finish.

Yep same sli bridge. They use a standard connection/terminal system across the range.

Side note: idk if you can mix and match different cards/waterblocks (i.e. one lightning block and one ref 680 block. not sure if the terminals line up. Not an issue for you but might be for others.

Cheers guys and I pulled the plug on that little lot. I have £100 set aside for any extras I need, so when the GPU blocks come, I will probably order those angled fittings.

I imagine there is a fair amount of weight on the cards once the blocks come, I take it this is normal and no need to start putting hangers or anything?

Order wont be here till tomorrow so added a few of each on the 45's/90's. I will have spares but handy to have :)

Always handy to keep some spare, I found the bitspower multi rotarys very handy too as they can adjust to any angle from 0-90 degrees :D

Chip memory and motherboard arrived yet?

Yep, got all those and can't wait to get stuck in. I have to wait in for the Lamptron controller to turn up but when it does, I will go and buy a few litres of de-ironized water (not sure on spelling) to flush the rads.
