I do it all by hand at the moment but I'm seriously considering getting a bread maker myself.

Oh, I didn't say. Oops. It works really well, it's actually cutting the bread rather than hacking through, there's very little crumb and I can finally cut a slice that's not a door stop.

+1 for the Victorinox. I got one a couple of weeks ago after having a years old bread knife that was just ruining loaves of bread and it's brilliant.
