Hi there,
My system is starting to struggle with the newest titles at the res I play at (1920x1080). I also have a 400w corsair PSU which needs upgrading.
I want to be able to play games like BFBC2 at high settings, Shogun 2 at high settings ect.
Cheers

how bout a gtx 470(a fellow member told me that october 6xxxx series are going to be slower than gtx470 as its the low end 6xxx) and sapphire 625w psu?

I was thinking of trying to squeeze a quad core in to. My dual core is my main bottleneck at the moment.

oh ok didnt see your sig.
how about just keeping what you have atm and save up so when the november-ish 6xxx comes out you have enough and maybe intels mainstream on Q1 2011?

If you can stretch a bit then Id recomend this, just make sure you have the F6 BIOS

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £117.49
Palit GeForce GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £124.54
XFX 650W XXX Edition Modular Power Supply £69.99

for games i dont think a Quadcore @ 3ghz is sacrificing. im on a stock Athlon64 Dual and its only 2.2Ghz lol, its my gpu thats holding me back.

these benchmarks are probably taken while playing single player mode while shooting 3 or 4 computer bots for a couple of minutes.
i dont think they reflect online multiplayer with a packed 32man server and how intensive that can be. this is wer the 1gb will shine.

your talking like i went £200 over for godsake.

im getting 2 460s in a couple of weeks. im still getting the 1Gb version:cool:

£50 over on a £300 budget is quite a sizeable chunk, also using the same benches if you compare the cpus link theres a much bigger difference in fps by using a phenom vs an athlon than a 1gig card vs a 768 card, whilst the athlon is still quad core it doesnt handle games nearly as well as a phenom
Its upto OP at end of day but I know which combination Id be going for

your talking like u came under budget and you "didnt" so wot difference does it make. who says he can stretch to yours and not mine?

u may aswell say a 480 performs better than a 470. ofcourse the PhenomII is going to have slightly better numbers its a later model. you can run 99% games well on an overclocked dualcore! the Quad isnt the issue here it will cope more than enuff. when games is the center its GPU not CPU.

At the end of the day at this resolution on an intensive 32 man server the 1gb version will flex its muscles.

in the end its up to OP. so havefun which ever u decide:)

£12 isnt quite the same as £50 though is it, on a £300 budget thats 4% vs 17%
But yes youre right it is up to OP, either set up will be good, weve both given him good options (mines just better, lol :D )
