I just acquired my 2nd big bike. It's a Suzuki GSX-R750 K7 in grey/black.

The guy I got it from said it had been standing for a while and that the battery was ferkled, which having now got the bike I can confirm.

Could someone recommend me a good battery as a replacement please?

I really have no idea what works best these days. I'm reading all sorts about gel, nitro etc.

Cheers :)

Hmmm could try using two pieces of hard card pushes either side to hopefully stop it going it anymore and push the middle part with a screwdriver.

As for a battery you can't go wrong with a Yuasa :)

*Edited Typo ;)

I'm sure you meant CAN'T but thought I'd double check :)

As for the rivet... the pin came out entirely :( I have the insert bit but the pin dropped inside the bike. I don't think it went into the fairing. Looking at where it fits on the frame, which is hollow with the odd opening here and there, it appears to have fallen down inside that. I can't find an opening on the bottom anywhere so I assume short of me turning the bike upside down and giving it a shake it's stuck there?

Yep yep :)

I need to see if I get on with a full sports riding position before deciding whether or not to sell the ER-6f.

I'll do a few long rides on the Gixxer and see if I get any new aches n pains etc :)

Battery wise there are two out there i would trust

1. odyssey battery - could start a car with one ( No they don't harm your bike)
2. black and white battery - About the size of a coke can and very good for racing, streetfighting etc.

Just put the correct sized battery in it and keep it charged with a maintenance charger when you are not using the bike. Yuasa have a good reputation, but any of the major branded ones will be fine as long as you look after them.

Odessey make compact batteries with fairly high CCA ratings which are often used in motorsport, but I don't think they make specific motorcycle sized batteries.

The "Black and White" batteries, and other LiFePO4 batteries are very light and have impressive CCA ratings for their size, but are not very suitable for road bikes IMO. They have much lower capacities than the OEM fit lead acid, and cost maybe 6 times more.

I have all ways used Yuasa batts but my last batt is a motobatt no only will it turn over a jumbo jet :p it has 4 take off points which is handy for my cig lighter plug to blow up my air bed when on rallies :D

edit: A friend of mine just put one on his single due to the nature of a single pulls the guts out of any batt but motobatt handles the job with ease,he like me used to use Yuasa and still has one on one of his bikes.

Still do not think you can beat a Yuasa old refillable batt tho personally if using a optimate said friend had one on his sr250 for 10 years yes you read correctly 10 years a local dealer did not believe him so he has dated the one on his gs550 which has so far lasted over 5 years :)

Motobat is great if you want to pay twice the price and you want to use it to start pickup trucks. For everyone else a Yusasa or Varta and some basic level of care when laying a bike up will be more than adequate.

If we were talking about a big V-Twin I could understand, but it's a 750 IL4 so it's not going to punish the battery.

In what way? Why pay double the price for a battery with huge CCA if you simply don't need it? How is that a sensible choice? Lets see if you can manage more than one word this time eh?

Your comment on you only need a motto to start pick up trucks ,so reading in between the lines in your opn people who choose mottos are all wrong which is rubbish, nothing wrong with wanting a high end batt especially in the winter months more bang is always helpful.

Yes a Yuasa is fine read my above post had many over the years but at the same time a high end batt is always helpful on any bike during the winter.

Do not want to argue with you dogbreath but i was a little offended with your dismissal of a good batt,It come across as if we are all idiots.

I'm sorry you feel like that, it certainly wasn't the intention. My point, however badly put, is that it is an expensive option unless you actually need the higher CCA, which you typically don't on an IL4 bike. The 5 year old Lucas battery that came with my RSV Mille will still start the bike from cold with no problem, probably down to the previous owner ensuring it was never left to go flat, which is a killer for lead acid batteries.

You almost certainly will initially, but you get used to it quite quickly, especially when you learn not to rest your weight onto your wrists. The GSXR is a relatively comfortable bike as sports bikes go.

Was finally able to afford insurance today so took her out for a blast.

Very weird at first after the ER-6f. Felt like I was being tipped over the front. I settled in pretty quickly though :)

43 miles later and my left wrist was in pain. Right wrist was ok strangely, maybe due to it already having a couple of years of throttle control on it.

Anything I can do to help the left wrist or do I just need to put the hours in? :)
