Spec me a Camera £600

I am only starting photography as I have always wanted to but never had the money for a high quality SLR I am well experienced in Photoshop and Sony Vegas and would love to get some of my own photos and videos. Budget £600. I have been looking at the 550D with the 18-55mm lens kit and it seems to be what I'm looking for. Need the pros' thoughts and advice first though. Cheers

I am more interested in portraits and I would like to do some mini movie making also

I'd go for the 600D if you're interested in movie making. Still within budget with the 18-55 IS lens.

Home movies or more serious stuff? as you will have to learn how to manual focus, and recording video while holding a body like the 600D isn't easy, but you can buy stabilizing handles etc.

I just got myself deal with an upcoming band so will be recording some of their performances and being taking photos for them I think the 600d should be perfect for this and can anyone recommend and good tripod to accompany it? Any further thoughts? Cheers

If you're going to be photographing bands then you'll likely need something faster than the kit lens so the next purchase will probably be a fast prime.
