Spec me a CCTV System

Hmmm, thanks for that, glad I asked. The lack of 24/7 is frustrating. I guess that's an issue with any wireless battery solution and it's asking a lot of a doorbell cam. I mainly just need a video doorbell, I like the E340 as it has a small motion light & colour night vision, the second camera is just a nice to have as we live in a nice remote area where we shouldn't need it but

I might just grab the doorbell and investigate a powered camera + NVR solution, or the wired Eufy option (https://uk.eufy.com/products/e8601321) if I fancy drilling holes and routing cables in the future.

Yeah, unfortunately no battery camera is going to do 24/7 recording as the battery won't last - it's what put me off getting more Eufy cameras in the end :(

It's a dedicated Linux VM running in Proxmox (an open source hypervisor similar to HyperV/VMware), so no pesky windows updates to contend with.

Yes it still needs updates occasionally, but I can run them manually at suitable times - e.g. in the middle of the day when there's someone at home and awake
i might do the same then. proxmox seems the way forward, specially when i want to have a plex server on the side

how much effort would be a doorbell wires?

I much would have preferred to use VMware/Vsphere as I've used it quite a bit in commercial environments (albeit 5+ years ago!) but from what I read, it doesn't have any drivers for the Coral TPU, so like you say Proxmox seemed the best/only option. It isn't too dissimilar, but I did end up basically following a step by step guide :p

I'm desperate for a video doorbell after moving. I work in the "garage" all day and have zero idea if someone is at the door. We'd like some camera coverage and I would prefer to not have any cloud storage nonsense. While I'm aware of Eufy/Ankers issues with phoning home, I don't care enough to go hard wiring anything. Battery & Wifi is the preference.

So I noticed Eufy have a new doorbell that works stand-alone which I was going to go for, but if you bundle the homebase 3 you get it half price... at which point the new outdoor solar cam seems like a decent addition to cover my back yard.

What do we think? Could I do better for a wire-free solution?

not sure if i am allowed to link, but if you put that on ebay, you will get a doorbell + homebase for £140 from Anker directly, i believe it is a slimmed down model, so not like for like, but more than £250 cheaper

That is almost certainly going to be the Homebase 2, and if you're getting a homebase anyway, the 3 is going to be the better option, as it's highly unlikely that any of their newer cameras will ever support the 2

Still trying to think of a way out with these cameras.
One question for you all.
At the moment I am using a Benq senseye 3 LED 24" monitor to view my cameras on. Would I find any benefit by upgrading to a 27" monitor with higher resolution capability. -I am pretty sure the answer will be yes. So I have been looking but as with this sort of thing the more you look at the more confused you become.
If so any suggestions -nothing overly expensive but maybe future proof.

Whether it will be of any benefit will entirely depend on the processing power and output capabilities of your DVR. If it only supports 1080p then not only will you get no benefit, in fact it might actually look worse since the monitor will be running at non-native resolution.

With the processing power, even if it can support a higher resolution, you might end up with lag/stuttering if it can't keep up with what it's trying to display.

I am getting lag and stuttering occasionally now on live view from the new camera. Not good ?

PS - went into menu and it says resolution 1920/1080 & 60Hz or is it something else.

Yeah, that will be either a lack of CPU power, poor network connection, or too slow storage (or combination of the above)

That's probably just the current setting, you'll most likely need to check the manual or spec sheet of the particular model you have

Are there any vendors I am missing if I want a PoE camera with onboard recording (initially this will be a deployment of 1), ONVIF compatibility for the future, but to be a turret or dome camera in black with 3 axis adjustment? All I can find is a £160 Hikvision and I'd like to spend a bit less for a trial.

Hikvision from eBay? That's where I got mine (you're still looking at £70+ depending on what features/resolution you want though)

why not go for a ptz camera at that point? unless looks matters

To the guys that are using Reolink kit - cams/NVRs etc, if you had the choice would you choose it again or would you look elsewhere? Still trying to decide whether to sink £500 in to 4x of their cams and an NVR.

This is exciting - Ajax are releasing their own NVR that you can use with any cameras that have ONVIF.

This might be the perfect solution to bridge the gap between having to build a dedicated Blue Iris server or being locked into UniFi or some other system.

Looks like they're releasing their own line of Ukrainian made 3k and 4k cameras too!

I hope they're good.

as someone who has not heard of them, what makes them good?

They've built a reputation as being one of the top choices for modern home and business alarm systems with excellent accompanying app and focus on user experience.

So motion detectors, window sensors, motion detectors with cameras so you can see what triggered the motion, outdoor motion detectors etc.

They then branched out into fire alarms, moisture/leak detectors and home automation.

They've just announced/released a superior line to all of the above that will strive to comply with pretty every single local regulation and regulatory body standard for high security and safety systems across the globe with this new line. The idea being these ultra high security devices can be used in any industry, in any country, even the likes of banking and other high end business applications.

They've just released a new touchscreen keypad for their security system, which is pretty cool, you an see that here

They're Ukranian based and design and build everything in house. So that could be a big win for their cameras as many places won't allow Chinese manufactured cameras and depending on price could mean competing with the likes of UniFi Protect systems, or Axis cams and other non-chinese manufactured cams which are typically incredibly expensive.
