Probably a futile mission, but nearly finished S4 of Peepshow (Had it on Sky+ for months :D without watching it), my thirst for an equally well- observed, cleverly written comedy shows needs quenching :)
 
Sorry to dissapoint you, but nothing comes close to Peep Show :(

For modern "Comedy through tragedy" shows like Peep Show, the only one that trumps it for tragedy is Extras, as daz has said. The sketch in the posh bar where David Bowie gets everyone singing is a particular highlight :D

Marion and Geoff... it's got the tragedy alright, and Rob Brydon is superb. but it's not quite as funny as Peep Show. If you can get hold of it, Rob Brydon and Julia Davis' Human Remains is in the same vein. The same could be said of Nighty Night, which has an even bigger span between tragedy/comedy.

If, by some freakish quirk of chance, you haven't yet seen any of the Alan Partridge series then they should be your first port of call, however.

Has this show ever been picked up on in the UK apart from late on Paramount?

Its genius is quite amazing. So so consistent and 7 series, a pilot, a xmas special and a feature length film. so much to get through and such quality.

My top five comedies are

1. I am Alan Partridge
2. Peep Show
3. Arrested Development (Series 2 is the best)
4. Day to Day and Brass Eye (Both about the same and almost the same show)
5. Phoenix Nights

I am Alan Partridge is far better than Peep Show.
 
Watch Garth Marengi's Darkplace if you can, its utterly fantastic... "She's Smooth, like ice, cold to the touch and it isn't very nice when your left, alone.." :D :D
