I'm looking to get a coupe - ideally under £3k and not too harsh on the fuel consumption.

My current favourites are the Ford Puma and Hyundai Coupe, both gorgeous cars but I haven't got a clue about the rest of them :D

Thanks guys

Car pimpage time :D i recommend a Toyota Paseo i have one good fuel enconomy i average around 40MPG and resides in the lower tax bracket as its only a 1.5. They are rare cars only produced between 1996-1997. Cheap to pick up mine cost me £1K with 42K on the clock easy to service shares may parts with the corrolla and starlet.

I think the Hyundai Coupe would be the best bet for this price range, i mean a paseo is like 11 seconds to 60 isn't it? The 2 litre coupe will do it in mid 8's. If you have any specific questions on the Hyundai i'll try and answer them.

Simply better looking than any other Coupe anyone else can possibly suggest, no question.

2.0 16v SE, that'll do nicely.

Doubt it, but remember the golden rule of cheap sporty cars:

a) Good looks
b) Reliability
c) Low price

You can ONLY have 2 of those, pick any 2 ;)

Unless you buy a MK1 MX5, suppose thats the expection to the rule though ;)

how about a vw corrado? one of the best handling fwd cars about. built to last too

Can I suggest a Rover Coupe?

Plenty of options available...

Honda 1.6 Engine
Rover 1.6 Engine
Rover 1.8 VVC Engine
Rover 2.0 NASP Engine
Rover 2.0 Turbo Engine

For under £2000 you can pick up an absolute mint example with aircon, full leather... and the rest of the toys.

Ok, so if you're a badge snob or are worried what people might think of you don't go for one, but if you want performance without paying the price, the 2 litre Turbocharged Coupe is a hell of a car for the money!

Well looks are subjective. I have all 3 imo.

They only look good if you are intending to take it out on a lake though.

Boat looks++

Granted its not the best looking car in the world, far from it, we did agree on the boat like looks while stood next to a lake but its far from a minger.

Gen1 looks nicer than the Gen2 in my opinion, but neither are ugly by any means

O RLY?

I'd say you couldn't be any more wrong, they are both ugly. But as has already been said in this thread, looks are subjective.
