Hey All,

Ok, car has gone into the bodyshop today and have been told to expect completion either late tomorrow or sometime Wednesday.

But, I've always wanted a car with a turbo to have a dump valve on it, as I think they sound so cool with a dump valve.

But I have no idea how they work, what exactly they do, Or how to fit one.

So either just before christmas or just after I'm going to be looking to get one.

So what I'm asking is,

Are they relatively easy to fit?

Do they cost much?

How much should i be looking to spend for a decent sounding one?

Thanks Guys :)

What happened to your Astra (if that was you?) and what car do you have now?

Wrote the astra off at the beginning of November.

Now I have a

Saab 9-3S 2.0T :)

He bought a saab turbo. No idea about what dump valve but it will be funny seeing an old saab drive past then pppssssssstttt.

Coupled with a ships air horn the could have a winning combination.

As bear said really, do you know if the engines ecu will work with a dump valve?

Fit - easy peasy.

Cost - £70 - £300

You may have to cobble a kit together for your car because I can't see there being a specific kit for it. Just get a cheap Bailey/Forge universal and some hose.

I quite like them but having taken mine off a month ago, I don't miss it. Do more harm than good.

I thought if the car had a turbo it could have a dump valve fitted....

I'm guessing I'm wrong...

How old are we talking? I must have missed the thread.

I have no idea if it would fit a Saab, but the best sounding (if you think they sound good) dump valve is the HKS sequential blow off valve. I have no idea of the model number.

Not always it depends how the ecu works, you're letting metered air out of the system and if you buy a cheap bad sealing one it will cause huge idle problems.

I wasn't intended to buy a cheap one :) I'm intending to get a decent reliable one.

Guess I'm gonna have to give it a google to see if anyone else has fitted one to a 9-3S

Explain how a properly installed, good quality dump valve can do more harm than good?

Blitz DV24 (single piston) or DV26 (twin piston) are good entry level dump valves and give off a typical pppppttttttttscccccccchhhhhhhh sound. Very loud and very cool. I think you can get them fairly cheap at around £60.

If you want to be the envy of all your mates, get a HKS SSQV. A bit more expensive at around £200 but boy do they sound good. They look really cool too. Vrooooooooooooommmmmtttssssssssssssssssssssssss *tweet* ;)

Is there much difference between a single piston or twin piston?

Got any sound recordings of how the awesome ones sound? :D

also add me to msn when your bored :p

do you know if your car has an AFM or a MAP ? if it uses AFM then its likely that the engine will "see" the air after it has dumped and overfuel - this is not good.

Not a clue, how do I find this out? :)

AFAIK, that's what the twin piston DV's are for.

Phate, will add you tonight if I'm around :)

You need to recirculate the air to get round this issue and even this won't solve the problem all the time, VTA can really cause problems if you don't watch out.
