As above really. Doesn't have to be particularly portable, but something I can take on long journeys and away with me would be nice.

I really like the look of the MSI 740 they have on ocuk at the moment, but the res is only 1050. Why is it that laptops from 2 years ago have better resolutions than todays offerings?

I have been looking mainly at hp dv8-1080ea, Alienware and Dell 1747s.

Does anyone have experiences with the above?

Many thanks

Yes they are..! I've got one on order :)

You'll be doing very well to find one for the same price as the acer though.. US price is 1100 gbp when converted to pounds.. annoying eh.

I have found ebay to be the only place to get them. Where you have ordered it from, does it have a uk keyboard etc?

Ya deus i also was looking at the MSI GX660 but i was torn between losing usb 3.0 or having i7 cpu instead of i5.

This for me is a big factor due to the amount of data I copy when at work, the price of the MSI too. I must say the Asus was top of my list just the MSI popped up and i rushed to buy it due to demand.

Happy tho :)

I encode a lot of anime to watch on dvdrw and need the cpu and ram power more than usb 3.0 but i did think a lot about the msi notebook. Everyone uses notebooks for different purposes.

The JW has USB 3.0

I have ordered it in the UK and its not an import - UK model/UK keyboard. I'm probably breaking some forum rule if I name suppliers so I won't go doing that but I found one retailer online that has stock - they only became available a few weeks ago in JW form.

I personally have ordered mine through a local supplier who I also deal with for work but he doesn't have any kind of website etc to order from.

JH is an awesome piece of kit also :)

Apparently, the JH is the better laptop to go for as it has a faster graphics card. I might actually import it as with a slightly better spec, will cost just under £1500 "landed" and thats if I do get caught for VAT. Otherwise it will be over £200 cheaper. Mighty tempted now.

If you don't mind me asking ssiruuk2, how much did you pay?

I paid 1405 plus the dreaded. Still waiting for it arrive due to a three week lead time. Wish it would hurry up and arrive.. Desktop has been sold and I am getting impatient!

I am getting the 91137v variant i7 740, 1.5tb, Bluray RW. Going to stick an SSD in it eventually once I have decided whats best to go for.
