spec me a gun

I'd have suggested something with a martini action, just to be different.

I've only had the priviledge of firing one once, and it was firing .577 cal solids, with black powder charges. Spat sparks out the muzzle then all disappeard in a cloud of white smoke. Much fun :) (Even if it does feel like being shot in the shoulder with a 9mm)

Just don't retrofit it with a long scope, it looks retarded and will likely fracture your skull.

Edit: for those who don't know what a .577 is/looks like - here's a .577 Snider, standard 5.56mm FMJ, .577/450 (Martini-Henry) http://fix-bayonets.us/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/dscf0001.JPG 5.56 is 62 grain, the .577s are 480 grain :)

And this is the fun bit - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7f/Martini-Henry_Rifle_(6950096771).jpg

I have always wondered what the most powerful weapon a US civilian can own? I am not talking about some mahoosive hand cannon but what is the closest a civilian American can get to say a M16 or AK47?

Can they own something like a G3,M14 or FAL?

They can own far more powerful weapons than that, you can own a .50 cal machine gun if you want, as long as it was made before 1986.

Depending on the weapon it's 1934/1968 or 1986 actually :)

Or if they fill in the appropriate paperwork, pass the extensive background check and are approved by their local head of law enforcement and the ATF then they can buy whatever they like.

I've always liked a colt .45. I know they're a big cliche and a bit boring, but they have a classic feel to them if you can find one in good shape (the one I shot at a range was so knackered and jammed a lot).

Revolvers just feel so clunky to me (and loud!). They do really feel like a proper hand cannon (I shot a friend's magnum .44 and couldn't hit a thing, but I felt anything I did hit wouldn't have survived). I just like the smooth feeling of a semi auto handgun, and in terms of accuracy I like shooting 9mm's. Rifles don't really float my boat, but I would love to shoot an smg.

It's been a long time since I got to shoot anything though!

Already have 1911s, glocks, AKs, etc. I want something that doesn't have any real purpose other than being a gun. Handled a few revolvers and a 44 desert eagle and a massive 454 casull but nothing did anything for me. Almost bought a 308 SCAR but it was $3000 and the novelty value isn't worth it. Couldn't find an Enfield in good shape. Ended up just buying a big box of AK ammo.

Ammo meh :) Always liked the look and idea of the FN Five-seven though judging by your selection have you not thought of more historical weapons? Must be some good stuff available over in the US?

omg no one believces you. Shush.
