Hey guys,

Iv got a 80gb boot drive, and a 120gb drive for documents and programes to be installed on, but my 120gb is a bit full, and its also supprisingly about 7 or 8 years old now, so want to get a bigger storage drive befor something happens to it, touch wood it doesnt though!

So looking for a cheap and cheerfull fairly fast storage drive.

Also, how difficult would it be to plug in another storage drive and transfer my documents and programes over to it then change the drive letters so it reads that the files etc are on the new hard drive so programs work etc then to take the old one out?

Thanks

Any modern drive you get is going to be much faster than either of your current drives. Can't really recommend one without a budget to go on.

Changing drive letter is a piece of cake, take a look in control panel -> admin tools -> computer management.

Transferring the files over may or may not have problems with installed programs. This is how I would attempt it:
1:- put in the new drive (duh! lol), switch on. quick format if required.
2:- Make sure as little as possible is running and try to copy the files over (not move).
3:- power off, remove the old drive.
4:- change drive letter of the new drive to the letter of the old one.
5:- do stuff :)

I wouldn't mess with changing drive letters etc, as the registry keys for particular applications may still be pointing in the wrong place. If anything, mirror the drive, and grab a bigger one.

500GB with 7200rpm would be a nice starting point, not too expensive even after the rise.

Changing the drive letter is to solve the registry problem:)
Mirror would be easier tho ;)
