Spec me a hobby

If you think you'd like to take up marshal arts, just get on and do it. Go to your local leisure centre or something and see what courses they offer. Friends don't just drop into your lap (generally), so be proactive.

I'm looking to take up a new hobby to try and meet people and make new friends, as all my current hobbies just involve myself (photography/guitar). I was thinking perhaps something like karate/judo etc as I'd also learn self defence and get a bit more fitter, but was wondering what the OcUK collective would suggest? :) Cheers.

Wushu Kung-Fu

Running Club

Climbing/Mountaineering Club

Join a cycling club or try and get in on a local ride down at the local proper bike shop.
You'll meet new people, it is very social, it'll get you fit, you can go ride anytime and it works well with photography too as you can just ride out with your camera.
A decent bike doesn't have to cost the earth either.

That's the plan ;)

So what martial art would you guys recommend? I think it seems the best suggestion really.

I do Karate, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Ninjitsu and I have dabbled in a couple others.

I'd recommend Aikido or Kung Fu over the rest, then Maybe something like Karate, Tae Kwon Do or Judo.

I'm going to start Wushu soon. Maybe Ashtanga Yoga as well.

I've seen Wushu being practiced at my local gym on a friday, it looks ace.

I tried Wushu. Wasn't bad :)

Never been a fan of any kind of yoga tbh, and never heard of Ashtanga Yoga :p

Something like mountain biking is very good. Ask around your uni, im sure lots of other people do. Plus it will keep you fit. :D

If the following apply:

- you have disposable income available
- you like gadgets
- you want to do something that'll get you fit

Then consider tournament paintball - a site in your area should be able to hook you up with a team. Scope for travel around the UK, Europe and USA.

I'm going to a wedding at a paintball tourney this weekend. Strange couple, my cousin and her bloke.

A mate of mine pretends he likes dancing (Ballroom, Latino etc) and he's got women coming out of his pockets when he goes to these dancing clubs.
Or you could be a singer in a rock band - even at my old age and fat status I get loads of offers. I haven't got the strength to carry them out though.

If you live in the country a nice bit of 12bore action tbh

Very true actually most people that shoot are very friendly and helpful, you soon make lots of good friends.
