I'm going to a wedding at a paintball tourney this weekend. Strange couple, my cousin and her bloke.

Heh - Wickstead Park? I saw that Lump over on p8ntballer had his wedding coming up. Brave choice, my wife would have killed me if I'd suggested that :p

Cool! I've done quite a bit of sailing, but kayaking seems a lot more physical. :) I might give it a go once it gets a bit sunnier. :)

Cheers for all the suggestions, some good ones there :)

I contacted the local leisure facilities and they don't have much of a selection of martial arts on :( I did find something though, if anyone is interested - I saw a notice for joining a skydiving club so I went for it :D - I'm going a week on Friday :D Also I think I'm going to have a go at rock climbing soon as well.

Another option to consider, and one which has worked for many male friends, is going to an arts centre, if there is one near you. They often have evening classes in various arts and crafts, like pottery, woodwork etc. This gives you the chance to meet interesting people and, as there is often a coffee break during the session, you can get to talk to people. You don't necessarily need to be artistic, just enjoy it for something a little different.

A good tip that I always pass on to any young men out there looking for a 'motherly' type (ie. someone who, after a while, won't mind some of your less savoury habits!) and I am assured by male friends that this works:-

when you get the chance to meet several young ladies in one place eg. in a pub, at a party etc. wear a jumper/t-shirt/sweatshirt with the label at the back of the neck sticking up. You are virtually guaranteed that some caring young lady will come over and tuck it in for you, thus you get to start a conversation.

Surely your Uni has like Photogrpahy or Music based groups?

Checked your Uni website or forums for any activities that your uni does, and if you find something that takes your fancy go for it?

Go find stuff yourself and take a chance, stop asking on a forum and go out there and just meet people. It really isnt hard if you want to actually get friends..

Bite the bullet and take one for the team!

Like you said, try a Martial Art, always good fun, or try upa new sport, Hockey, Football, or even just going to the gym and meeting people like that.

I don't know if it would be a hobby, but I'm starting to draw adult manga's (they got a name but I don't want owned with a Banhammer +4), but then again you might not want to?
Build airfix models, or modify games update with new models and create story lines
Fanfiction for things like Stargate or Lost (if you're into those)
Rugby is a good sport to get into if you're considering putting some physical effort in. :) Cooking is also great fun, not only can you eat what you make, you can eat the raw ingredients as well, and you could impress your girlfriend and mum with your new found skills!

I did, check a few posts above yours ;)

I will be going away for a weekend with a group of people, so it should be fun, and a good opportunity to make a few friends :)
