Yes, boring I know, but I like the sort of appliance which looks good.

I currently have a Prestige 50670 glass kettle

I wouldn't mind the same again (the switch has started to go and I probably could repair it but I don't have the time or the inclination), but am happy to see what else is around.

So, budget, £45 - £55, glass (the mrs loves glass)

Hit me!

:D

Not the best looking ill admit http://www.johnlewis.com/230855965/Product.aspx

If it were me id just get a Dualit though.

Dualit kettle = NO!

It's one of the worst pieces of rubbish I've ever owned.

The toggle switch constantly tripped before the water had properly boiled.

The base connector oxidized quickly and was unreliable.

The basic steel finish tarnished very quickly and never looked good.

Honestly - pick something else.

Just get a random tenner kettle and buy a new one every 6 months :)

Huh never had any problems with mine, i always thought they were the "top brand" for quality. Had mine close to 3 years now and no sign of any of the problems you mentioned, mines brushed steel though so cant comment on tarnish.

My other half kitted the kitchen out with Dualit stuff including the obligatory toaster and a weighing scales. They are fine but the kettle was really rubbish.
I bought a decent Russell Hobbs and it's a much better design and much better made.

Sod the budget and go for a bugatti Vera best kettle I've ever had the pleasure of

I just have a whistling kettle which is maintenance free :)

EDIT: Search for the Trendglas kettle on Amazon!

Dualit kettles are rubbish, don't go there.

We got a matching toaster/kettle set as a wedding present 5 years ago and the kettle lasted less than 3 years, the toaster is as good as the day we got it.

They are clearly made by someone else for them, unlike their toasters which are awesome....

I can personally recommend this...

Really quick, plus you have the added bonus of being able to specify the temperature you desire.

Oooh, remember that Tefal Quick Cup? It gave you very hot (but not quite boiling) water in 3 seconds and was apparently ridiculously loud.

This looks like a better alternative, and the water come out actually boiling (though in 40 seconds...)

I've owned both the Mark I and Mark II Tefal Quick Cups. They both developed faults. Stay away, plus the fact you can't have a real cup of tea due to the temperature is unacceptable.
