Dad wants one for christmas, a look around the usual shops reveals there's a very large selection, and not many reviews, so where better to come to than GD?
Anyone got a label maker they can recommend? One of the hand-held single line printing ones, doesn't need to be a huge business one or anything. Preferably with a removable backing so it can stick to things like that. Doesn't need to do anything fancy, just the basics, and how often does it need new label tape? I don't really want one that gets through it too quickly, obviously.

Cheers :)

What sort of labels? White address labels?

Dymo are good, buy the compatible labels, they are not as good quality, but work just the same.
Of course, the best ones are Zebra label printers. More expensive for the printer, but the labels are much much better quality, and much much cheaper. They use bigger rolls too. I now have 2 of them instead. I have a large duty cycle for labels, so it works out at more than worth it.

Of course, if you mean the handheld ones, then the idea is just the same! I have a dymo handheld one, which you can buy in Asda, and they even do the tapes (Just white in there). Cheaper to get the tapes from the states, as a highstreet office supplier want around £8 per roll (Complete rip off!).

Brother make decent hand helds too.

Sorry, I should have clarified. Its just one of the hand-held single line jobbies that you can just peel the back off and stick to things.

I bought a Brother P-touch 1010 about a year ago. Really nice bit of kit for the money.

The TZ tape it uses for labels is liquidproof, with great adhesion but at the same time not a pain when peeling off the backing. It's also available in a number of colours and widths.

It's not seen anywhere near daily use, and is only now about to run out of the tape that came with it. So it will last for a while. It's even on the original batteries.

So yeah - worth checking out in my opinion :)

Thanks for the pointer. Looks like the 1010 isn't made anymore, just the 1090. However, I've found a store selling the P-Touch PT-1005F for £15 which looks similar enough, and given its still a Brother machine and from the same series, it should use the same tape as well.

I have used a Brother P Touch hand-held for a while now for office network installs and similar.

I have never been able to find replacement tapes for a reasonable price though. If anybody knows of anywhere I would be interested. (I think they're TZ and I tend to go for 12mm black on white I think)

I print labels off of a4 sheets on my hp laserjet and it works nicely. You can get self adhesive peelable labels in most shapes and sizes very cheaply. The ones I use are made by taktic and are very good.
