spec me a mountain bike £2000

I'll vote YT Capra. (see sig)

It's an absolute weapon of a bike, it's saved my skin on several occasions and has let me push bigger and bigger things and ride sketchier stuff than I'd have ever thought possible!

Took it to the local DH park yesterday, set it in 'soft' settings mode, let the tyre pressures down a bit, and she flew beautifully, despite the mud.

It may be 'too much' bike now, and too much bike in 6 months, but if you get a Capra you have something that's capable of tackling bigger and bigger stuff if you ever feel like it.

I'd strongly recommend getting a ride of one or 2 if you can just for size, unless your height puts you obviously to a certain frame size. I'm 6' and ride a Large, but my long arms mean I prefer it with a longer than standard stem.

They only sell direct, and I see no reason why they wouldn't deliver to Cyprus!

Their support has been excellent, a crack in my paintwork around the BB shell meant I got a whole new frame out of them, and they paid for the carriage and it was back with me within 10 days. :) (Issue is now fixed, they don't paint that area now)

Ive made my mind up, im going for the Capra AL :D

YT Capra AL

The wife and I are taking the little one back to the UK this year for Christmas to be with family, we're going back for 3 weeks so if I place my order in the first few days of being back it should be delivered prior to me returning to Cyprus in the New Year. If push comes to shove and to save possible hassle, I may order early December to ensure its delivered before the Christmas/New Year holidays.

From the reviews I have read it sound like the whole process from ordering to delivery is pretty rapid which suits me perfectly as my sisters boyfriend has kindly offered to take me riding when I'm back (I'm sure my Capra will hold its own against his Santa Cruz's :D )

Not going to lie... I'm a little excited :D

From what I've heard with delivery times, I'd order now!

No excused to come to Troodos next year now :)

Ha, I e-mailed YT last week and they suggested to order in advance if the frame size/model you want isn't in stock. Luckily the frame I'm ordering (meduim) seems to always be in stock which means they can build the bike and send it out a lot faster. :D

Hell yeah, I did that 21Km route from Olympus back to Troodos a few weeks back on a Hardtail and I was in agony by the time I got home. Looking forward to doing it on a FS to see how it compares :D

IMO it's quite a boring route (but then you have to put in pedal strokes :p), compared to the route from Platres to the trout farm. Exactly the kind of the route the YT is built for :)

And macheras route, which is still my favourite on island. So much speed!

There was only one part of that route where you can get any real decent speed (through the forest down to the ski lifts) but it wasn't long enough to really enjoy :(

Ive heard a lot of good things about those routes, can't wait to get on them and see for myself!!

:D Yes, another Capra convert! Enjoy, they're a superb bike.

If you don't already have one, it's worth getting a shock pump and taking it with you for the first couple of rides until you've got your fork and shock pressures setup right for your weight.

:D

Cheers for the advice, the lads I'll be riding with out here are pretty hardcore riders so I'm pretty sure one of them will have a pump I can borrow until I have my own ;)

I for some reason have 3 :p

So if you ever need to borrow one, feel free. Along with multiple track pumps and just about everything in multiples :p

got my canyon on Thursday and got out for my first short ride yesterday absolutely love the bike just need to make a few adjustments to the bike to suit myself small things like break lever reach and so on which i can do no problem the only thing im not sure about is suspension rebound can anyone give me a rough idea what it should be for me?

im 6 foot and 11 stone and the rear shock is a ROCKSHOX MONARCH PLUS R DEBON AIR i have the sag at 25% which suits me, and my front shock is a pike rc which is also set at 25% sag

any help with the rebound would be appreciated

Ha you never know when one might break... its always handy to have a spare... or 2 :D

Appreciate that buddy, I'm sure in the new year once I've got the Capra back I'll be holding you to that :)

Suspension setting is quite a personal thing, and should be adjust to your feel not standard settings. Now i'm no guru when it comes to suspension but the method i use has worked for me for the past 20 years. My advise would be, find a trail with a mixture of features like jumps/rocks/rollers etc preferably something with repeated close hits but you want to find a trail you are comfortable with something you know well.
When you are at said trail, adjust your rebound so its fully open then give it ~4 clicks in, now i dont know the range of adjustment of the Monarch/pike but i'm assuming ~12 clicks? either way i'd be aiming for about a third in from fully open, that will give you a base level erring towards the faster end, do a run get a feel and see how the bike reacts, if it feels out of control bucking you about you need to slow the rebound down, if the suspension packs down after repeated hits you need to speed it up, adjust as necessary and continue to repeat the above steps until the suspension feels "neutral" and you feel like you are in control instead of being a passenger holding on for dear life.:D

Good choice! I have a Canyon Spectral AL 9.9 29er and have only really hit up a few trail centres so far clocking 120mi. The bike feels so planted and confidence inspiring, much more confidence than me! Mine came with the Fox suspension 140mm travel and I have not even taken it out of trail mode yet. Hoping to break my Chicksands virginity at the weekend to hone my skills at drop offs and jumps :D
