Spec me a netbook

I've drowned my Acer Aspire One D250 and need a new netbook. To be used for browsing and occasional dvd watching (got an external drive) - 10" screen is fine. Budget is £200.

Part of me says that the acer was fine and having another would be fine, but another part of me says that if I can get something better for the money it would be daft not to.

Any reliable contenders spring to mind?
 
the 311c is difficult to beat for £250. You get Ion graphics, a 12'' screen, and standard laptop resolution, at the expense of 4.5 hours battery (which isn't bad, but not stellar for a netbook).

For a cheaper alternative, there are plenty around, notably The Asus EeePC range (either pinetrail N450 or the old Atom N270), or the Samsungs. Not sure about the Acer, but it looks good.

I'd try to go with 6 cells batteries, win 7, and matte screen. The Acer Aspire One Open Box on OcUK looks like a cheap alternative. Pretty much all netbooks share the same core specs really, but the Aspire One has a good rep. It's winXP, but for the price, ... I believe it's 6 cells battery (so 7 hours or about), but best make sure imo.

OcUK had some Dell OpenBox models for under £200, and with the high res screens. You missed it by about a month.

That's a pity.

Battery life isn't an issue, I can quite happily tolerate 3 hours - it's just for my missus to check out facebook etc from the living room.

Not too keen on the EeePC range, I found them not quite so nice to use last time I looked, but if there are Dell and Samsung options in the price range then I'll definitely check them out.

shame, can pick up a asus 1001p black, 6 cell battery, windows xp home 1 gb ram 160gd hdd and the n450 pineview/trail, for £220 ;o im getting one when i can get the money :).
 
The Eee netbooks are some of the best around, fantastic keyboards for the size, great build quality and linux compatibility, so you can get rid of XP as soon as you get it :)
 
Great spec on the EeePC but I had a tinker with a couple in Currys and I found them slightly lacking somehow...can't write put my finger on what but I definitely prefered the Dell and Acer offerings.

i did at first, but i found better reviews and easier ram access on the asus 1001p, so that was the main seller for me, as you dont have to take off the keyboard, to upgrade to 2gb ram, you just pop open the hatch on the bottom, bosh it in, close it again and start it up :)
