As per title really. What do you do with all the fat/oil/water/gunk generated when cooking?

If it's only a tiny amount, I just pour it into some kitchen roll and put it in the bin, but when there's more of it (e.g. when deep frying, or cooking a big batch of fatty mince), I pour it into a freezer bag and put it in the bin

I feel like there's got to be smarter, less wasteful option than this.

a funnel and an empty bottle?

smarter? lest wasteful? You some kind of hippy/commie son?

We funnel it into an empty bottle and once we have 2 or 3 bottles, we'll book a run to the local tip and dispose of it there.

Or you could chug it - whatever suits you I suppose?

I pour waste cooking oil and semi soilid fat into a 25 litre container and use it to get garden waste fires going robustly. Or as Raymond Lin says, pour it into a depression in the soil somewhere.

does that still happen? been a while since I got a whiff of a chippy when a diesel drove past!

Not with modern diesels due to the complexity of the emissions systems and tight tolerances, but the old school ones with mechanical fuel pumps would run on pretty much anything oil based.

I was cooking some beef burgers today and even though the frying pan was dry it soon filled up with fat and meat juices. What I do is just carefully spoon it out into a little pot or dish and just wait for it to harden. At that point I can use it for cooking or I can throw it in bin.

The simple answer here is don’t use a deep fat fryer. I mainly use a wok with just enough rapeseed oil to cook my food. Better for you and no need to dispose of oil ;)

I service my own cars and have a deep fryer, so I just keep empty oil bottles in the garage and fill them back up with old oil, then every couple of years just take it to the tip and dispose of it properly.

Exactly this. One can for old motor oil and another for old cooking oil/fat.
