spec me a raid setup

having just discovered the joys of usenet i'm finding my poor 250gig drive rather lacking for space.

looking for a raid setup that i can run from the raid sata doohickeys on my DS3R(2x raid sata ports)

budgeting around 150 pounds and not bothered about redundancy,

just want space and speed


any thoughts guys
 
Unless you're wanting to boot from it then RAID0 isn't going to give you a huge benefit, you'd be better off just adding one or two individual HDDs.
 
are you aware that the DS3R has two RAID controllers? so if u wanted you could set up RAID5 with 3 discs? all you have to do then is decide which discs you want to use.
 
mmmm didnt know that, thought i only had 2 raid enabled sata ports.

not bothred about redundancy just a sehd load of storage :) and maybe somewhere fast to load game data fron
 
yea, you've got the gigbyte RAID controller (the 2 ports you mentioned) and all the other ports belong to the other RAID controller.

if it's just storage space you want, i'd have to agree with rpstewart. it may be a bit more messy then RAID, but, if u lose a drive you only lose half your data, not all of it!
