Following a previous thread, I need a new razor/shavor of some sort. I dont have an idea on price as I do not know what I want/need.
I get very dry skin normally, and sore skin if I shave dailly. I currently use a mach3 with sensitive foam and am not sure whether it is my technique or the style of razor that is giving me problems.

Maybe an electric shaver??

Thanks in advance, and no I dont need mustard I dont need it to grow:p

Brother had a Braun, good shave but the foils don't last very long. Philips not so good shave but the heads lasts years.

Scuzi will say Merkur something, from that Gentlemen's Shop. I alternate between Mach3 and my Philishave, don't have a problem with either.

I might be interested in doing proper shaving, but not until I've got a proper job.

I had similar problems with shaving leaving my skin red and bleeding even if i didnt cut myself ><
Try poping into the bodyshop and talking to them, they'll recomend a couple of products. Sorted my problems out instantly.

I’ve been looking to move over to double edge razors but the initial outlay has stopped me at the minute.

You need a razor brush stand soaps bowls etc but it all looks fantastic and a hell of a lot better than my bog standard Gillette fusion.

I tend to get red marks and ingrown hairs on my neck when I shave and apparently using the old double edged razors and brushes can help a lot.

Parker Knightsbridge are also pretty good, combined with some good oil/shave cream and a badger hair brush. :)

Don't bother with a Gillette Fusion, two shaves and the blades are blunt (they cost loads as well) a mach 3 is much better

Definitely agree with this, Mach 3 is the way to go.
The only good thing about the Fusion is the single blade on the back.

Go old school? I wouldn't use on as the bathroom door is right the mirror, other people live in the house...oops

A DE razor + Blades - will most likely come with the razor
Shaving cream or soap - NOT gunk from a can
Shaving brush - Badger hair preferably but there are other, cheaper alternatives.

Those are the minimum things you will need. A decent tub of cream or soap will cost between £15 and £20 but will last for 12 months. The brush will also last well if you buy one of a good standard. The blades cost about £2 for 10 as apposed to Gillettes' £10 for 4. You'll probably want to add an aftershave balm or "skin food" but this in optional.

You could get a decent set up for about £70 initial outlay which will last for ages and will be far cheaper in the long run than cartridge razors with foam-in-a-can.

www.shavemyface.com will give you a great understanding of the benefits, both in shaving terms and in financial terms.

So if I was to get one of these Merkur jobbies, what's the complete list of stuff I'd need?
Personally, on Scuzi's recommendation, I bought this razor and these blades, then proceeded to have the best and closest shave I have ever had in my life without any irritation (I have very sensitive skin).

Naturally you'll also need shaving cream, but personally I don't bother with brushes and things.

I've used Gillette for years and have never had an issue - The Merkur doesn't bode well for the 'I've had a few drinks before I go out and need to shave quickly' shave and the Wilkinson Sword ones tear your face up.

My personal vote is for the Gillette.

mach3 for me. I have the same problem as you and i use the Gillette sensitive gel stuff. I tried other razors and electric ones, they all ended up pretty much destroying my skin. If there is a better wet razor out there then i'd be happy to try it but th Mach3 is the best I have foundso far.
