spec me a razor

I don't get how a disposable razor will help trim your pubes unless you're shaving them off. In which case you're a lady.
If you must trim just don't stop, because they will grow back longer than you can imagine.

Are the £25 Merkur razors (DE) actually much better than a cheap-o DE razor? (e.g. Wilkinson sword £4)
Anyone used both?

I use the merkur 34c and i am finding it a million times better than any razor I had before,

The fusion was costing me around £10 a month on blades and I could only shave every other day, but with the merkur I spend less than £1 on blades a month and can shave every day

I also recommend a proper shaving cream and brush over goo in a can as that makes a huge difference too

razor blades are stupidly expensive but I have to buy them as the misses makes me save...

I do how ever think that Mac 3 is quite good

Stelly

I've been using my other half's leg razor lately (on my face), I'm finding it far better than my Mach 3 ever was. I tend to let my facial hair grow quite a bit too (usually shave once a week, twice at most) and I hardly get any cuts with hardly any effort. Apparently they're the same blades just cost less. The name of it escapes me but it's a well known brand.

Yes they are. You will spend an initially large sum to get going : razor, decent cream/soap, decent brush. You then quickly hit your break even point as the blades are so much cheaper than the Gillete rubbish (as well as being so much better). I estimated that within 4 months I was at this financial break even point; after this, I was saving a considerable amount and have a superior shave.

hmm, is around £22 inc 10 blades about the correct price?

Don't get me wrong...but how does a razor that is only one blade, cut better than one with say three blades lined after one another...?

Also what cream do you use then? And goo? :P

I have used both. The Merkur is superior by a long way. The plastic Wilkinson Sword razors have no weight and as a result skip over your face, putting gouges into it. To prevent this you have to put pressure on the razor which results in cuts everywhere. The Merkurs are weighted perfectly so do not need any pressure applied.

I've been using wilkinson sword shave soap and a brush for a while, with my quattros (hate them), and want to use DE, but I don't really wanna spend £25 for a Merkur if a £4 cheap-o (with decent blades) will give a decent shave too.

^ ^ That's a decent site to have a look at. The Gentlemens Shop is another good one.

Delvis - the blades in a DE razor rely less on the gimmicky Gillette aspect of ZOMG 5 BLADEZ!! and more on the precision, durability and sharpness of the blades. It is almost impossible to cut yourself with a Mach3. It is equally almost impossible to not cut yourself when you first start shaving with a DE razor. The contrast in sharpness is night and day.

So in other words I'm going to cut holes in my face with a Merkur? :P lovely...;)

That's one thing I'm worried about actually....haha

Yes that is around what I paid I use the shaving shack for most of the shaving supplies I buy

Well the mach 3 pulls the hair up then the back blades cut it, the pulling up of the hair means it falls under the skin after cutting, this causes ingrown hairs,

A proper cream and brush and proper hydration can get as close as you can go without damaging your skin

Also what cream do you use then? And goo? :P

I use taylor of old bond street's st james cream,

I find that a lot of the creams smell like "old men" I am only 22 and the st james cream smells great

If you haven't shaved before you should be ok, most people cut themselves when using a DE blade because they have all the bad habits from shaving with a mach 3,

I used a mach 3 then fusion for about 5 years and switched to DE shaving and still have never cut myself,

Make sure to watch a few good tutorials, i recommend watching videos from This guy and start off slowly

I'm not sure what you mean here I mostly go with the grain so the hairs aren't really pulled up... Well no the way I shave anyway...

Thanks for the replys :)

How about aftershave then? At the moment I use the sheep one, Nivea for men malarky, the sensitive one as my skin sucks.

I'll have a look at purchasing, may as well if its a better shave :)

I find I can only shave down my face, not up. If I shave up I get a really bad shaving rash. Ive tried most of the popular razors, but tend to go back to the mach 3. Any tips?

Are there sites for the two above mentioned razors? That you can buy them from I mean? I just use an old mach 3 with new blades every so often...but sometimes my neck gets a bit aggitated...Unless I soak it for a while with soap or something.

But even that doesn't work all of the time.

I buy the blades from eBay but I got the razer from a wesbite called The Shaving Shack.

I use this one: http://www.shaving-shack.com/shop/product.php?productid=2611&cat=133&page=2 however it was only £12.99 when I bought it, for £19.99 there are probably better ones on there.
