spec me a razor

i do to maybe because some people are more hairy and if they not shave u can have a ponytails in your armpits or your lower regions

I can honestly say I have never known a man to shave his armpits though....unless they're like body builders or something.

Didn't mean to offend in my earlier statement :) Was just asking.

you put your soap in cup or whatever and add a b it of water and mix it for a couple of mins with your brush

its way better than the gel goup you get.

I use cream, I prefer it to soap as it lathers easier, and I just give mine a quick 3 second whisk with my pure badger brush and that should give me enough for a good 3 passes,

Just remember that you need to soak/rinse your brush in warm water for around 30 seconds then shake of the excess before starting to "whisk" the cream

What is it that makes the Merkur razors so good. If I shave to frequently, even not shaving for three or four days I get a terrible rash on my neck and jaw line. I have tried various razors, foam and gels. Using a hot wet towel before I shave helps a little but I generally have sensitive skin.

Is it worth trying a Merkur?

I hate you guys. Just ordered a Merkur 760 with 10 Merkur blades for £37.90 delivered.

I'm tired of spending money on Mach 3 blades only to be disappointed everytime I use them.

This is probably against the rules, but since my brand new Merkur is doing an outstanding job of ruining my skin... I've decided to sell it. I think I'm just too sensitive for something so sharp.

Email my trust if you're interested. If this is against the rules, I'll edit it ASAP. Just thought someone might like to save a few bucks on a practically brand-new razor.

Merkur blades are rubbish, use derby or feathers. It also takes some getting used to.

Thanks for the advice. I'm using some Merkur platinum coated something or other blades that came free with the razor. Can you buy those Derby blades from shops instead of online?

Those Merkur blades have turned my neck into a minefield :(

Thanks mate. That's exactly the same problem I have at the moment. The weird thing is, the blades don't even seem that sharp. Maybe they're just manufactured badly?

I'll order some blades in the morning.

I use Derby blades and have no problems with them. Just make sure that you are not going over more than twice until your skin gets used the razor, and I probably wouldn't go against the grain at all in the first couple of weeks.

You need to give your skin time to get used to them. Also, just make sure you are putting NO! pressure when going at your neck and go very slowly as this was the problem I was having when first using them. I was trying to go over at the same speed as when I was using my Gillett and ended up with quite a bloody chin!

I can't really answer that but I think it's just accepted that Merkur produce the best quality razors for the price - and mine came in a nice shiny metal tin :o.

Maybe you should try posting on the Badger & Blade forums and asking what they recommend to stop your rash. I'd guess using a decent razor, blade, soap/cream (i.e. not stuff out a pressurised container) and brush would sort you out pretty quickly though :).

When I first started shaving twin blade razors were just coming in. I have watched over the years with some amusement as the number of blades has gone up, and up.

Personally I never had much luck with electric razors, always irritated my skin for weeks till I "got used to it" and never gave a decent finish.

Now I tend to use a Mach3 and its fine. Change the blade when layers of skin start to come off :)

Seriously, perhaps where you shave is more important than what you use. I have a shower every morning. 5 mins or so waking up and contemplating my navel under a good jet of water with loads of steam. Wash hair. CLean teeth. Wash face and neck (medicated soap). THEN soap up with same medicated soap and shave. After all that time and moisture the shave is easy and irritation free.

Just a suggestion.

Thread resurrect:

I'm in the market for a Merkur (been using an el cheapo Boots fixed-head safety razor for the past few months and feel that it's time for an upgrade), but when I went to the 2 sites people have linked to (Gentleman's Shop and Connaught) I was completely confuzzled by the sheer number and variety of Merkur models available!

How am I supposed to pick between lightweight head, heavy head, standard head or open-comb, adjustable or non, long or short handle, heavy or light handle, or any of the other stuff that makes each model different? I know people will just say "personal preference" but how can I know my preference unless I buy one of each and try them out? What difference does each parameter make to your shave? Which Merkur models are generally supposed to be the best? Which ones have people on here tried and which ones would you reccomend?

I've always shaved before getting in the shower, normally removes all the small bits of blood and foam I still have left on me lol. I know a lot of people who do it the other way around, but it just seems more logical to do it then get in the shower imo.
