Spec Me a repmobile

to be honest i think fox is right about needing 130+ bhp in rep cars. i had a focus 1.6 which was dangerously slow on the motorway, but ive had a passat 2.0 tdi hire car and my mk3 mondeo both with around 140 bhp and both feel fine on the motorway no complaints about performance i go to manchester every weekend(gf) in the mondeo never feel like it needs more power tbh

what is this "dangerously slow" nonsense?
i fail to see how a 100 bhp 1.6 is dangerously slow

it can't bomb down the motorway at 120mph and it loses speed up steep hills, oh noes! it's dangerous!

stop talking out of your arse

I agree, either his car was at fault, or he isn't a very good driver.

Maybe maybe not - it's better than the Mondeos before it, it's the closest Ford have come to being a credible 3 Series rival.

sadly the oval blue badge will see to its residuals.

really? that surprises me greatly. Especially when parkers would disagree  whilst generslly crap at pricing, its consistently crap.

I'm just looking at 1 year values as a guide which I know isnt accurate, but Parkers 3 year estimate may use data based on the previous Mondeo, go and have a look at the value of an 07 Mondeo Zetec compared to an 07 Passat, think you'll be surprised. The New Mondeo has a long lead time and they cant make them fast enough.

Ok, for people who are lazy, 07 Mondeo Zetec ~£13k, 07 Passat S ~£11.5k

Probbably better, seeing as how dire the new 3 series actually is from all aspects bar the handling and engines.

If only ford would develop a 6cyl diesel engine.

I dont think I've seen a new Mondeo that isnt a fleet car yet :p

Our neighbour has one, he seems to have a knack for buying big depreciators, he used to have a vauxhall omega before it.

But yes, they are going the same way as the other ones.

lol, im just quoting what Ford of Britain Chairman said. However I havent seen any fleet new mondeos, only Ford's own fleet.

EDIT - Just went to autotrader to look for mk4 Mondeos to prove a point and came away with nothing, NONE were in the £12k budget, ones which came close were 1.6l Edge (i.e. poverty), So I think that ends that debate.

you dont list new prices, so its a bit hard to work out depreciation.

Also, as you hinted, people will be paying a premium for the new model - so cant draw a comparison until 3 years in, after they've been through the rep system.

finally a Zetec isnt equivalent to a base model passat, and would be more desirable (at a guess?)

small points, but valid. Its fords medium size car, and so will be common as muck, and depreciate.
