Fair enough Vinny, although you seem to have done a tidy job of the above rig.

If you go down the PC route, then it's gonna have to be a Sonata, or a coolermaster RC 1000 silent tower and 120mm fans minimum.

to be honest I would look at a mid sized workstation from a company who can offer business support

Xeon processors and SAS disks should do the trick and would last you quite a while

for example

2 x Quad Xeon E5335
4 x 300GB SAS
8GB RAM

£2,400ex

Hiya everyone,

Am looking to purchase some components for a new system i intend to use as a Digital Audio Workstation (Music Production). I usually have no problems picking out the right components and building my own system, however after reading tons of reviews on quad core intels, motherboard and ram - it literally has got my head spinning.

I was wondering, if i give you a budget of £3,000 +/- £300, would you recommend the best spec i could get for that price. I only need a bare bones machine, no monitor or soundcard is needed.

As this system is for a DAW, i need noise to be at a minimum. So the quieter the better.

I'll start the spec off :

* Intel Quad QX9650
* mobo ?
* 4 Gig Ram of ?
* ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
* Seagate Barracuda 1 x 1TB
* Seagate Barracuda 3 x 750 or 500GB

Whats the difference between the ES.2 and the 7200 ?

What power supply / case do you recommend ? - quieter the better

Thanks for your time ....

Vinney.

you want to spend that much, and only want a 2600XT :eek:

no its about you not thinking. Where is your evidence that a 3850 would use less power then a 2600xt ?

Hes not going to be gaming by the sounds of it and id imagine the most graphical use the pc would get would be watching videos which he has perhaps compiled with the music etc. Nothing heavy, why waste the money?

Exactly ...... this is not a gaming machine .. i have a ps3 for that lol.

I dont care about 'going green' only thing i was interested in was the price ... the Ati was cheaper ... more than ideal .. long as it runs my dual displays i dont care ....

Ive actually re-ordered the mac ....

Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
2GB DDR2 800MHz FB-DIMMS
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard

RME Multiface II with HDSPe PCIE Card
Powercore Firewire
Genelec 8040
2 x Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC 24"

is a good machine. Although personally id not have got the dell monitors i would have got the benQ Fp241w as it has extra outputs and doesn't suffer from the problems which dell have with the green shadows etc. Not much difference in price either.
