Spec me a socket set.

I didn't think the ratchets were guaranteed ?

I had a 3/8 medium sized rubber grip one with a set, one of the bolts holding it together had fallen out. The woman at the counter said they weren't really supposed to swap the moving parts (although it wasn't a moving part that was broken) but she would swap it as the boss wasn't in ???

Not bad considering it was 3 years old, battered and I didn't have a receipt :D

I have that. I think I got it for Xmas 2008 or 2009. Mine was more like £65 iirc. A few of the ratchets have gone very stiff when trying to switch the direction over due to rust, but in all honesty the tool kit is fantastic for the price.
My brother has a Halfords Professional tool kit. It is of good quality and will probably last forever.
Recently I bought 2 cheap timing guns off Ebay before giving in and getting a decent Gunson one.

Moral of the story:
When buying tools, buy good quality and you only need to buy once. Long term cheaper tools probably work out more expensive.

I picked up the set from lidi on sunday
looks a good set for £35, the sockets go from 4mm to 32mm and there all the 6 sided type.
there all Chrome Vanadium and the ratchet mechanism is Chrome moly
the star bits and the screwdriver bits are S2 steel..

edit
this this same socket set in the toolstation catalogue for £89

In the end I ended up purchasing the Halfords Advanced 170 Piece set that was on the 50% off offer for £124.99. So much for not spending much on one

I've rebuilt 3 Land Rovers/Range Rovers and various V8's with my Halfords pro set, good purchase :)

Can't agree. I don't think they're as good quality as they used to be and my Halfords Pro spanners might as well be made of cheese. They mangle up before the bolt heads do

My set is about 8 years old now so perhaps the quality has changed over time. The only issue I've ever had was splitting a socket and that was more my fault, I did ask rather a lot of it. It was replaced without argument though, so can't grumble.

Anyone else noticed the order pages being prohibitively slow? :(
Either their server's getting hammered or they don't want me to buy one before Wednesday when the offer's expired!
Or my internet's being weird.

The only gripe I have with my 150pc advanced set (approx 4 years old) is that unlike my mates plder professional set, the small torx & hex bits aren't direct ratchet fit parts. They come in a crappy red box with adapter. And the bits fall out, useless. The rest is great though, I'm no mechanic and probably use some tools inappropriately and nothings broken working on crappy old french cars.
