Spec me a sound bar

You can adjust the level I run mine at -2 which is for me is great. Unless you don’t like your neighbours then you can crank it up and there is also a bass enhancement option too. :-)

There is also an option to disable the sub and use the soundbar to create the bass which is far more neighbour or night time friendly if you need to limit the bass. You can pretty much tune for all situations.

Can anyone adjust the level? I thought there was a night mode that basically did the same thing.

Depends on use, for Hifi 2 channel stereo I agree as music being noticeable for music is pretty distracting if it's too loud, but for AV I bump it up a few dB, say 3dB.
Funnily enough I find the opposite and need more bass for music. I've not listened to music much on the soundbar since I got it, but on my separates system music needed a significant bass boost.

You can adjust the level in the app, or with the remote. It has a specific subwoofer volume button.

I think night mode compresses the audio so there is less difference between the quieter and louder parts.

If you want to hear the full dynamic range of the soundtrack you would not want to listen on night mode all the time. I understand you would not want to upset the neighbours though, maybe lower the volume and bass level.

Can you do a different sound mode per audio type on the Samsung? For example could I have standard when listening to Atmos vs adaptive for PCM?
I don't think so. Everything I play has remained on standard. There could be further functionality but I've not delved that far yet.

I had a feeling they woudn't but with AVR's you can typically do this, for each codec type you can set a DSP ie

2 channel PCM - stereo
Dolby - Apply Dolby decoder
DTS - apply DTS : X

Some allow music and movie modes, my old av pre so you could move center mix to the mains a bit for music/concerts, adjust rear channels, and even rear channel roll off. For movies leave it as stock

Years ago you had many types of DSP, ie Pro-Logic, Pro Logic IIx, Pro logic II Music, DTS Neo but they have reduced these down to a simple Dolby/DTS DSP that expands in to whatever speaker setup you have.

Correct about night mode it brings the loudest and quietest together,

Indeed. Soundbars tend to fall into the plug and play market segment as, understandably, most people won't be interested or even aware of the additional modes and functionality.

The Samsung does what I expected and is perfect in my lounge for TV/film watching. That is until I can get all my other AV gear installed into a dedicated home cinema room.

I've recently just bought a 930F system top pair with a 65" LG C5 TV.
I've got a large living room and current TV is a smaller 12-13 year old 1080P Sony. I thought I would improve the sound whilst upgrading the TV. Hopefully it does that nicely. I paid £430 for it however, I believe there were much better deals a few months back.

One limitation of soundbar is say you buy a soundbar that is HDMI 2.0 spec that has HDMI passthrough, then buy a PS5/Xbox, and want to use 4K 120hz, you'd route Console--->Soundbar--->TV. You would need to buy a whole new soundbar to get HDMI 2.1

You'd only get 4K@ 60hz. Granted you have option of E-ARC out so instead you'd go console--->TV--->soundbar, but then if you have TV that lacks DTS out, and using the consoles for DTS you're stuck. There may be reasons why you don't want to use this method, for example less cables going to the TV (you want to use the soundbar as a switch box)

Not had a console since the PS3, but do any console games use DTS? Though it was all DD these days.

I guess movies could be a problem, but I think it will only affect discs as most apps use Dolby digital (although I did read that one will also start supporting DTS, Disney I think?)

The Q990f does have hdmi 2.1 ports, vrr etc.

I have just got the LG95TR soudbar hooked up to a brand new G5.

I run all the apps (HBO etc) direct from the TV, soundbar in HDMI2 (earc), PS5 in HDMI3, sat TV in 1 and Xbox in 4. I use PS5 also for Blurays. I don't use the HDMI in on the soundbar. Gaming is mostly with headphones. All of the cables are in the wall cavity so its going to be tidy whichever way I wire it. Also have an optical cable there leftover form the Sonos bar I had.

You think there is a better way of running this?

G5 doesn't support dts? If so you won't get any dts formats, test yourself and see if lg DTS decoder works

Can you see what format the lg soundbar is receiving?
