spec me a soundbar/av setup - £1000(ish)

At the end of the day, it depends what @233 is prioritising - experience vs quality.

A wireless 5.1 soundbar system will give you a great experience for £1,000 but not the best quality.

It sounds to me as though you'd favour a better experience.

You have 2 options, in my eyes:

Sonos Beam + 2 surrounds + Sub Mini

or

Samsung Q930B

Daft question is the Sonos kit all wireless ?

No.

The surround speakers - a pair at the rear of the room - they're wireless. So is the sub. The main sound bar which does your front 3 channels or 3-ch + Atmos upfiring is WIRED. It needs a HDMI cable from the ARC or eARC connector on the TV to the sound bar. Without that it's a no go. You need the wire.

If you're trying to get a system that is completely wireless between the TV and the sound bar / AV receiver then you're really crippling your options. Yes, there are some bits of gear that will work with a Bluetooth link from the TV to the sound bar, but it's just stereo or maybe stereo decoded as prologic surround (if you're lucky) and not proper 5.1 surround. BT is not your friend when it comes to surround sound formats. It sucks at it.

I recently purchased the Sony HT-A7000 and its cracking bit of kit (you can get them through Very for £20 cashback and if you go through TopCashback and Very you get even more, Think i ended up at £850 after all the discounts. Will add the Sub next but the Atmos is good enough for my needs and will pick up the rears when they drop in price a bit

(The sub is nice to have for my needs)

No not at all happy for the sound bar and even sun to be wired speakers only I’m looking to be wireless

Take a look at the new JBL 1300, kind of gives you the best of both worlds as the wireless rears can either be attached to the soundbar or removed for when you want surround sound.

Can pick it up for about £1000 with a discount code at the moment as well.

So you’re looking for the sound bar to connect to the TV wirelessly?

No HDMI cable?

No, happy for the sound bar to connect to the tv via hdmi (Samsung C1) so has earc i believe. Also happy for a sub to be wired, but would prefer satellites to be wireless

I see

So I have my Sonos Arc and 2 subs connected to a switch, and then the two rears connect to the Arc on its own wireless network. They just need to be plugged into power.

+1 for Sonos beam gen2, mini sub and 2x play 1's, its in budget and will do exactly what op requires ? I have the the same setup without the sub, love it.

Except that @233 has other devices to connect (console and VM PVR) and would prefer a single cable up to the TV. Most sound bars - the Sonos version included - are either limited to one additional HDMI in or none at all other than the ARC/eARC connection. With only a small number of exceptions then, sound bars don't do exactly what the OP requires. [Not trying to piddle on anyone's chips here. Just pointing out the challenge when limited cabling is in place and the wall has been re-plastered.]

connection wise

i need 2 maybe 3 hdmi inputs (xbox virgin box and a switch and output ideally with a single HDMI up to the TV

any recommendations?

Changing the brief, or reworking the physical installation so that all the cabling goes to the TV first and then one HDMI comes back down for the sound bar to use, then at that point the Sonos gear or most other sound bars become contenders again.

hhhmm, take yout point, didn't see requirement to run single HDMI cable to the TV. I mean, I have mine setup on e-Arc to sound bar and all other sources on HDMI to the TV, works well for me, but I did plan and setup for multiple HDMI cables hidden to the TV.

That's as long as you don't have e-arc issues or the TV passes all codecs

It's an LG, so even with eARC we can be reasonably sure that anything in DTS is off the table. It's kind of ironic too given how long AV enthusiasts have lobbied Sonos to include DTS processing, which it now does. XBox also came onboard by enabling DTS:X, so those gaming on that platform are losing out on the benefits, though that's less of an issue for sound bar users because of the way DTS:X works. However, it is core audio tech in Blu-rays. The fall-back is multichannel PCM.
