Yer nan's knickers
We have a teef at work. Phone, a few torches, even a pair of brand new shoes. I understand the legalities of recording and what's allowed and what's not but for my own personal use I want to find out who it is. I have a suspicion but need confirmation before blowing any whistles. This will be its only purpose in life so cheap is fine.

Should have:

Battery, able to be left alone for 16 hours.
Record on motion activation.
Small, able to be hidden in a box of sorts.

Something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0786Z1HV8/ref=psdc_1330831031_t5_B06Y45S1ZQ

Anyone used anything like this? Got any tips or advice I might be missing?

Ta :)

I quite like the look of the one you linked, battery life could be better though - 45min.

You say for you own personal use but then say you'd blow the whistle.

Even if you caught the thief, I'd not be happy finding out that you took it upon yourself to video staff.

Pretty much every place I've ever worked has had some sort of theft going on, even working in a police station!

Questions asked/answered say that it can be powered to record so pair it with a powerbank and you should get the battery life obstacle sorted?

Ooof theft at work sucks :( every year without fail it picks up when we get seasonal temps in and heart always sinks on the first instance of the period.

I'd make sure you are 110% on the legal side of it though - could backfire badly if you aren't careful.

jesus, that's a potential can of worms you're at risk of opening. there are so many ways that this could go badly wrong for you as an individual. has someone in a more senior position given you the green light to secretly film staff?

We used to get the same and the conditions in the bathrooms became markedly worse.

Just put up some notices saying you are being filmed! Might stop the git/s

Things may have changed but I always remember Spie starting a thread saying stuff was going missing out of the warehouse but he could only turn the cameras on when everyone went home.
You couldn't even put a pretend notice up.

My solution would be for Diddums to tell nobody, film the culprit and put those pictures up without nobody knowing.

surely the answer to this is the same as any other situation of theiving- protect your stuff.

keep phones and torches in pockets and leave your expensive trainers in the car if you're not wearing them.

if this is company property then let the company deal with it, unless its your business in which case it's time to invest in a proper non-concealed camera system.

The easiest solution would be to give a false witness testimony, that you have seen the theft in question yourself, and not mention the camera.

The way cameras work is common sense, i.e. the purpose of the camera is to catch theft, that is fine, and if someone steals you can use that footage in court, but if they do other things, that are nothing to do about damaging property/stealing, then that cannot be used in court.

So if i work in OCUK and i sell drugs to staff in the stock room, it cannot be used in court.

The only place you cannot put them are locker rooms/changing rooms and toilets.
