Hi guys

Wondering what the best option is these days for a sub £100 graphics card?

Also while we are at it, what is best one for sub £150?

Would use it to play games like ARK Survival Evolved, Dota 2, Cities Skylines and the sort (nothing hugely intensive)

Obviously one that is compatible with the components below
Mobo: MSI A75IA-E53
PSU: Corsair CX430w Modular
Case: Bitfenix Prodigy ITX

Thanks guys

ARK is a gigantic bag of balls atm imo, with your budget I'd be looking at second hand, maybe a 290/290X, if you have to get new then a 380 would do the job fine at 1080P.

Any sub-£100 card will not run ARK:Survival Evolved at more than 20-25 fps on low settings so wouldn't get your hopes up. They may improve the code before release but so far the game is unoptimized even for higher end cards.

For around £100 you can get a used 7970/280X which is good for most games. £150 may get you a used R9 290 which is better.

Thanks guys, they all seem to be around £150, looking on various sites.

So second hand seems the way to go?

If the budget is upped to £200, what could I get new?

Thanks again

your still better off going 2nd hand even at £200 you can get an R9 290 or gtx 970 for £200.

Crap, didn't see your PSU, my bad, i'd save a little more and get a new PSU in there to, i'm not certain but i fear your current PSU isn't up to the job really.

So what cards would be compatible with this PSU? Providing it isn't upgraded (this is for a friend so not sure they want to spend more)

which is like a 140W cpu under load.
I'd say upgrade PSU first.
Or use one of the low end 750ti/950 things maybe

Id still say save money buy GPU later.

So maybe go for 750Ti as a stop gap if one is wanted right now? that should be compatible with current PSU?

Then in future, replace PSU and upgrade graphics?

Thanks guys!

My mate just got back to me, presented him with everything here.

Just said they are willing to go to £250 if you guys could suggest a PSU along with a graphics card? but maximum £250!

Cheers and sorry about the changes guys!

Go for a 600W + PSU such as the following

You might be able get cheaper PSU's from auctions but go for a well known like any of the brands sold on OCUK since all the good stuff is sold here.

If you are left with around £180-£200 for the gpu then try getting a used 290/290X but go for a non-reference cooler version. The 290X is probably the best bang for buck right now since it is essentially a lower clocked 390X with less VRAM. If you want a new GPU you would have to go for a 380 or gtx 960 but they are a fair bit slower than the 290's or 390's.

Cheers, could you suggest where I could get used 290X? Don't think I have access to MM. If not could you suggest a new card I could get instead?

Thanks

The thing is the A10-6800K will bottleneck graphic cards faster than around 750Ti~950 level.

Considering the balance of the system, rather than spending extra on the PSU and getting faster graphic card only to be bottleneck by the A10, wouldn't it make more sense to say...just use existing PSU and get either a 750Ti for around £80, and spend the remaining money on a nice display (and possibly speakers)?

Though I suppose dx12 is going to help reduce CPU bottleneck for future dx12 titles, but how would well would it work is anyone's guess...
