Sigh...

Could I get some recommendations for a new Vacuum or my flat, ideally from personal experience rather than brand preferences.

No preference as to push/pull, floorboards throughout flat with 2 big rugs. Current Vax upright has been on the blink for a while and just packed in, was rubbish from the start if I'm honest.

Is a Dyson or Miele really worth the extra cash? Or Henry all the way?

Cheers

I recently bought a Miele, and whilst because the build quality and its German makes me warm and fuzzy I couldn't really say it is hugely better than cheaper brands, maybe longevity will be its forte tho.

That's what I'm thinking also, don't mind paying more if it would last longer.

Haha, class :D

Had our Henry for 3 years now, wood flooring and carpet throughout our flat and our little fella hasn't let us down.

Yeah, I think my mind is made up on a Henry. Had one in a rented flat and the suction was great and was built like a wee tank.

Cheers for the replies, appreciated.

I'd say Mielle, but I have never used a Henry to compare. The Mielle I got has been great. It's nice and compact for moving it around the house and is very powerful. The are 6 different settings including a very quiet mode for if people are sleeping etc.

Think I paid £180 for it, so its fairly expensive, but hopefully it'll last a very long time.

The Mielle bags are too expensive though. Luckily there are some cheaper ones available on ebay. They are like a quilted fabric rather than the old paper bags. The cheapo ones look and feel like the same material and seem to be working fine so far.

Henry's are excellent. We have them at work and they're fairly indestructible, always used bagless too. At Home I have a Samsung Fido SC8790 which is equally as good but far more friendly on the eye.

We have a Miele bag-based jobbie and whilst it's hewn from granite, my mother-in-law came round with her Dyson and filled its cylinder with dust that the Miele hadn't picked up. So it's not quite as simple as to say Miele is better. I'd rather a hoover had awesome sucking power and lasted 5 years than medium sucking power and lasted forever.

It's a hoover, so it has to be really good at sucking stuff up before all else.

I've had a Dyson Dc04 for about 4 years now and it's solid. I find it easily cleans everything up and when you use the nozzle it's so powerful it really hurts if you test it on your hand :s

Only thing I dislike is both my cars are leather so it sets the high pressure release valve off very easily when cleaning and the only way to reset is to switch it off and on again.

I have found my Miele to be ultra powerful. On the top speed it lifts our heavy wool rug up. But if the Dyson had a agitator and the Miele didn't then that would certainly pickup more from carpeted floors. If they both had agitators then I'm surprised that the Miele missed so much as mine is great.

Our Dyson we had before this was also a great vacuum. The only thing i found with it was that the washable filter would clog really easily.

Decided to go for the Henry, although it was a tough decision with the cheaper Miele Grimley posted.

Not quite willing to part with £200+ on a vacuum just yet, however I may be kicking myself if the Henry falls over.
