Afternoon folks,

Im getting a bit ahead of myself here but my next birthday will be a milestone so im going to treat myself to a watch.

Can all you watchers spec me a decent watch please.

Budget upto £1000 ish, will also be using Tesco vouchers should i be able to purchase it from GoldSmiths.

Thanks

Andy

With your Budget your best bet would be a 2nd hand Breitling or Omega...

Most people are anal about their precious watches so you can expect as new condition.

I bought myself a mint Breitling B2 for £1200 3 years ago.

Ah that was my other thing, as this would be my first watch this sort of value, and its for an "occasion" I really wanted a new one.

I know this may seem silly to most people but its just a one off lol

Thanks

Andy

Ive heard very good things about Ball watches, you may want to check them out as they are around your price range, not sold in Goldsmiths though.

I would be stearing well clear of tag at this budget - you are paying for their marketing. I would be tempted by a lovely Sinn:

not a very well known brand on the high street but extremely well respected amongst collectors

If you could be tempted by as new used you would be well into Omega territory (and many others)

What style of watch would you like / what have you admired?

Ball is an excellent suggestion by Bennie Mac at this price point:

I would also be looking at Hamilton and Oris around this price

(if you have a look on Jura it has a price slider which would let you see a range of brands in your price bracket)

Thanks for all the suggestions, I really wanted a watch that would be recognised aswell as
it gives "the right impression" to some of the "people" I meet.

Thanks

Thanks Skidder,

Im liking this - TAG Heuer Formula 1 Grande Date Alarm, and the Indy 500, then the Aqua 500

So this sort of style is my thing really.

Cheers

that could mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. care to be more specific? What watches give you 'the right impression'?

For big brands (of the type I suspect you are aspiring to) you are talking used. Don't get sucked in to a low end tag just to have new (I have one amongst many other watches so I'm not slagging them off as such just questioning their value relative to alternatives).

edit: just seen your suggestions above since my post, will comment

I was assuming mechanical watches and everything you like is quartz. Do you particularly want the convenience of quartz? are you at all interested in mechanical watches?

There are such things as high end quartz watches but there are also nice cases with junk quartz movements in and massive premiums for brand names. Personally with this budget I would be wanting a mechanical watch.

If you like Tag and you want quartz then why not (well probably the best reason why not is you could get a perfect condition automatic omega seamaster or similar!) I wouldn't touch that victorinox job as it doesn't really adress your criteria regarding giving the right impression (unless it has a pocket knife and mini screwdriver under the bezel :p)

Thanks Skidder,

I am thinking that it gives prospective customers the right impression.

Im think this watch will have to be a common brand that will be recognised by more then
just watch savvy people - hope this makes sense, im sure it seems very shallow but hey ho!

Thanks

Andy

Just buy a good looking replica if all you care about is impressing other people with what it looks like and the name on it, save £950 and do something useful with it, like save until you can actually afford a watch that you want.

£1000 for a watch Jesus. You could buy a car, something that also tells the time.. for that much money.

Thanks for your input but i think you have missed the point, this is a present for myself for a birthday, I would be over the moon with either of the three tags i have posted above, if i wanted a replica i would buy one, as for not being able to afford it that doesnt come into it.

I WANT to spend around £1000.00, i know for this i can get either a "big brand" watch or a more specialist one. So my choice for this one is to go for a watch which will be recognised whilst knowing I have a classy watch, that will last.

Thanks Skidder,

I like that a lot, have you heard of that site before?

I may just do some research and get this to do me till next year :D

Victorinox doesn't do that. Tag may be does, with some!

I get the reasons that you don't want the more interesting brands I mentioned earlier, but I still know you can spend £1000 better than on a quartz tag. The reason I suggested a used seamaster or similar is that you can get a perfect one in budget and it will impress (although I cringe even at writing it) more than a tag fashion watch.
