Spec me an LED Torch

What are you using it for? Cheaper torches may have a similar output but may only last an hour or so on full brightness (if you're lucky). Fine if it's ICE but not if you actually plan to use it outside.:p

Come here...I'm a doctor and I'm going to test you for epilepsy

Cant think of many/any emergency situations where strobing is a preference. Esp as a torch only points in the direction you hold it, so not much cop as a beacon.

BTW

The Lenser M7 is 'rated' at 220 lumens and you won't get any better than that with a 4XAA light. Push it to 6xAA and you can get 400 lumens but no stupid strobe, sadly :p.

You will also be lucky to find a torch with a spot to flood beam lens. Lenser have patented that feature and pretty much have it locked down.

Maybe to gain someone's attention in an emergency situation?

You could just wave the torch around though, pretty much the same effect.

Also if it is a forward clicky you could produce the strobe yourself.

I think unless you like hiking up dangerous mountains or enjoy travelling on boats that are likely to sink the strobe is quite useless.

I've just bought this for the wife which has adjustable lens.

The strobe is quite obviously to use when raving :D

I have some cheap £10 duracell torch, it's about a foot long, metal and doubles up as a weapon, I keep it down the side of my bed.

With this charger:

And two batteries, only takes 1 but better to have a spare:

Use code CPF at checkout, would bring the total to £103.78

Having had (and destroyed) a Surefire and Lenser the torch above is what I now use. It's rechargable batteries last around 4-5hrs at full power or 12hrs at 1/2 power. Remembering that this is an LED, the beam goes 100m+ at full power and 30m-40m at 1/2 power (bright enough so you can still see an object). It's only AA maglite sized, built like a brick poop house (it's been dropped from 10m+ a few times) and the bulb stays cool to the touch. There's no flood/spot adjuster but the natural beam pattern is a tight spot with flood surround. You can get different end-caps from eBay which do on/off/strobe/sos/1/2-1/4 power etc just type in 900 lumens to find them.

The Fenix L2d will probably do exactly what you want at £50. 180 lumens. Since it uses AA batteries I used the opportunity to invest in a charger and a load of long life rechargeables for the torch itself and other items round the house that use AA batteries.

I use it as a powerful bike light (strobe comes in handy), camping torch, camping and garage lamp with the optional diffuser, and as a general torch when used on low power mode.

Wicked lasers torch - Battery Lifetime: 5 Minutes. Great, you can cook an egg then it runs out of battery power!

This seems like a good torch - Fenix L2D Cree Q5 Premium LED Torch

Thats now discontinued so the Fenix LD20 R4-

Full power: 205 lumens (2 hour runtime) plus strobe setting

General mode: 9 lumens (71hrs) / 50 lumens (13hrs) / 105 lumens (5hrs) plus SOS morse code setting.

2 x CR123A get used up in 1.5 hours for 60 lumens
