Spec me an LED Torch

Hello mate! if you want a £50 torch that uses AAs, you could try any of these:
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/4sevens/quark-aa-2-tactical.html
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/fenix/fenix-ld20.html
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/icon/icon-rogue-2.html
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/jetbeam/jetbeam-ba20.html
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/thrunite/thrunite-neutron-2a.html

All of those would be incredibly bright in comparison to any maglite and they all take regular AAs.

If you want more brightness, then you'll have to move on to lights running 18650's or other such Li-Ion rechargeables as they offer considerably greater power delivery capabilities, but do need a special charger :)

Cheers for the reply! :)

Now, out of interest, which one those would be the best bet? Bearing in mind i have no idea which is better or worse than the next.

Do you think it would be worth me spending a little more and getting a decent set of batteries, charger etc rather than one the will (i assume) eat AA or AAA batteries? I'm taking it that they will go through the regular batteries pretty quick?

EDIT: Dammit, i've just seen this....

Is that a decent price?

^ Damn 830 lumens!

I have a Quark AA2 Turbo and Eneloop rechargable AA batteries. Fantastic touch and batteries are cheap and easy to find (unlike CR123s)

There's quite a few reviews, 190 lumens is blinding, 830 would be crazyness!

I read that the difference between good quality and bad quality lights is the ability to drop the brightness to say 1 lumen to max, instead of just being able to pump out max power all the time

I was actually looking at that one too. How is it on the batteries?

Very good. I think ive only swapped the batteries twice

Great torch for its size

The Fenix TK41 looks like a good torch, if I need mega power (800 lumens) I would get that one. However it looks huge (8*AA)

Does anyone know if it is possible, and if so how to replace the LED on the solarforce masterpiece pro. I've taken it off the body and it doesnt look like it is, but I spotted this:

It currently has an R2 led in it I think, but wondered if I could put an XM-L in it?

^ You put tweezer ends in both the holes by the emitter on the mount and unscrew it then replace.

Gun grease came today, all good :pI realised it is easier to apply it with a cotton swab than with a cloth and make a mess :O

I'm looking for a torch actually, only looking to spend around £10-15 though as it'll mainly be used just at night when walking my dog over the winter.

Looked a little online and seen the Romisen RC-G2 and the Romisen RC-29. Both seem adequate, although I'm not familiar with any brand of torches so don't know how they compare. Any torches you recommend for my budget? :p

Had a read through pretty much the whole thread, how good would a torch like this be (I know it's only £6 and that it's not going to match up to your £50 torches)? It would be used whilst on walks with the dog at night now that the nights are coming earlier, nothing too serious.

Also, the eBay listing says it's:
Powered by 1*18650 battery 3.6/3.7V

I have no idea about how batteries differ, apart from there being AA's, AAA's etc. Would some everyday Duracell AA's work at the beginning, I could always purchase some more powerful batteries if necessary.

Nope, for that torch you would need a 18650 battery (they are like a really fat AA but the voltage is 4.2v) and a charger for that type.

Some will probably disagree, but in my opinion owning one, you will be amazed at it for the money it costs.

I have that exact torch^ The fortified lens bit is bogus because to me it feels like any normal piece of glass and when side by side with the JetBeam BC40's thick AR coated lens it's pretty obvious which one is fortified :p

Other than that though the rated lumens seems to be accurate especially now that I've had a chance to compare it with the BC40, the power difference seems right given the rated output. The centre spot is tight as well so makes for an excellent light sabre on nice nights.

It takes 1 18650 rechargeable battery and you can pick one of those up easily. Aod has recommended quite a few recently so check back a few pages :)

I wanted to update on the BC40 too, it just keeps on amazing me how powerful it is. It can easily double as a light for an entire roomwhen aimed at the ceiling.

And a closeup of the BC40, the build quality and feel is just great, even remarkable considering how cheap it is for what it offers, You can see the coating tint on the glass, looks cool :p
