City Of Villains/ Heroes already allows u to make your own content, was released in the "architech" update. I've not really seen that pan out as I quit before that patch.

a lot of the scenary and stuff in LotRO is nice but the character models ruin it for me (ie. female elves with clunky arms...).
If your desperate you could always try Aika, its a free MMO but probably the best one iv played so far. Although its got that 'free mmo' feeling when you first play it, ie. audio content and UI content sometimes lacking, it also has good community driven content such as large scale Nation v. Nation pvp. For a free mmo it looks good too, if you can excuse the typical asian quirkiness.
I'v only got to level 12 in it so far after about 8 hours play, but the grind doesnt seem that bad, plenty of quests including 'plot' driven ones.
Lineage 2 is another asian one which i played for a few years. It's not free but next to EVE it has the best PvP driven content of MMO's, nothing besides EVE has matched it for competetive political community driven content. But unfortunately you would have to dedicate your life to it in order to catch up and experience the good content if you were to start playing now.
Aion is nice but its dying mainly due to bot issues and updates just turning it into a grind fest from what i'v heard, which is really a shame - i played the chinese beta a while back and really enjoyed it.
If you dont like WoW and EVE i would just say just keep an eye on TERA and FFXIV, hopefuly one of them or some other new mmo will be successful...because there hasnt really been a breakthrough in the genre for a while.

MMOs are a waste of money imo.
Im not finding wow a grindfest at all. Have barely touched quests except to grab good rewards and just levelled up with PvP and dungeons. 73 mage now and its been anything but grindy. I guess theyre trying to get everyone up before cata.
I'm sure that's because so many devs/investors thought the only way to make a successful MMO is to copy WoW.
When enough of those projects fail (and they have been), maybe they'll try something new.

The grind starts at max level that's why you haven't found it grindy yet. Sorry.
Nah im getting to 85 (or 80 if before cata) and starting another character. Dont have the time, patience or feel the need to raid so i just pvp. After the miserable failure that was the unit, not even in a clan. Just having fun until im not, waiting for wwiiol to get the next update.

You should give Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) a try. It now uses a free 2 play model which has a lot of content which is free. www.ddo.com

If there was plenty of pvp available in it I'd be interested. It's just that doing PvE can end up taking a lot of time, whereas if you could do a bit of PvE then go do PvP it tends to make games a lot more fun.
