Not sure on an unreliable gfx card, but the x1800xt sounded like it would take off.

My X-Fi actually has excellent Vista 64 drivers, it is the Auzentech one though.

Yeah, the key difference being Auzentech. My first Creative X-Fi had loose/disconnecting audio ports so that didn't not equal the opposite of not many months of pain and anguish.
