Sounds a bit daft but perhaps not so.

I've been totally deaf in my right ear for many years but some sound does come through at very loud volumes. Last year I bought a portable DAC (Creative E3) and even with my poor hearing the sound was infinitely better and I felt like I was listening to my music for the first time.
On December 5th I had an hearing operation and only this last week decided to test my portable system again - WOW BLOODY WOW.
Today I've been going over old lossless tracks and I've had tears rolling down my cheeks to the amusement of my wife & daughters.

Anyway, my earphones are Ultimate Ears Studio 3 which sound excellent but how much better would the Shure SE425's be?
Would there really be much of an audible difference?
I saw one post on here of somebody who had got both the 215 & 425 and reckoned the difference was sublime and my UE Studio's are probably in the same class as the 215's.

Any advice appreciated before I part with £175 at Richer Sounds.

Wow, thanks lads, some great responses and a lot of homework to do.

Toss3 -
I have Beyer Dynamic DT531's which are excellent but I prefer earphones and of course they are easier to put in the pocket.

Not sure if I can link to another shop but you can get the Aurisonics Harmony for £209 right now which is an incredible deal, and they sound a lot better than the Shure 425s. :D

I've Googled & Googled but I can't find them at that price. I don't think you can link since OCUK sell Dr Beats :D

Found em.

Availability: Out of stock

I rang up today buy they are no longer doing them :(

He recommended:
Audiofly AF140
Dunu DN2000j
Fidue A83

I have SE535 I'm popping on the members market if you are interested. Near 2 year warranty with a lifetimes worth of ear tips £220.

These Shures are the best I've heard so far IEM wise and I would honestly keep them if my tragus piercing didn't play up as much!

When are you putting these in the MM?
I'd like first chance please at asking if everything is in order.

I replied to your trust email, take it you didn't get it?

Someone jumped on them pretty quickly so didn't get a chance to list em. There's still some that come up at a similar price to mine but not usually as new.

No I didn't :(

Did you sell them on Gumtree because I saw an advert?

e: I've just re-read your OP; slightly regret making a hearing loss joke now  But yes, if it's detail you're after, the Dunus will not disappoint.

:D
However true.

I had virtually no hearing in my right ear but on Tuesday I went to see the Consultant who showed me my graphs and my right ear is now better than my left so I want some decent earphones.

So true but in relation to the ridiculous cost of high end IEMs it's a small price to pay.

Sorry I didn't catch that but did you find a similar service cheaper than the snugs link I posted. Would be interested instead of a ghetto homebrew solution :D

I was watching a video on You tube about fitting headphones and it featured Snugs and then this cheaper version where it's basically plasticine that hardens up. I'll see if I can find it.

The sound quality of the Dunu DN2000J will be marginally better as the highs are not quite as lively as the Fidue A83s BUT the Fidues will be a lot more comfortable due to their housing shape and have removable cables - you know your priorities, your choice. ;)

I have their little brother, the Fidue A73, which is a 2 driver IEM (1 dynamic and 1 balanced armature) and absolutely love them.

I would like a removable cable just in case and the cable of the A83 looks awesome.
Also at my age the trebles would be dampened anyway.

Looks like I've got my answer.

Oh my word - awesome.
I'm really impressed with the build quality and looks.
I put the Comply tips on and even though I've read they don't fit some people they fit me perfect even to the point of me head banging to some metal tracks.
I tried quite a few tracks that my Ultimate Ears weren't 100% with but these are in a different class.
Listening to the Brian Setzer Orchestra I though I was in the same room.
I'm seriously impressed so thanks everybody.

I've been in audio heaven this evening and then did an experiement.
I really dislike Coldplay but downloaded a couple of Flacs and even they sounded good :D

The Fidues look Very good (make my sony's look bland!).... love the cabling - would look great on my rig

(apologies if you've already seen it :) )

After your post & Easyriders I was checking the Oppo out and Googling whether I would hear much improvement over the Creative DAC!
I didn't get far because the Brown Burr is supposed to be a very good DAC but I like the looks of it.
I was also looking at DAPs - The FiiO X7 and Astell & Kern stuff but out of my league yet.
